Bass guitars and music equipment

Hey Guys,

I am a bass guitar player, I work in a couple bands in Los Angeles and Arizona. My life is music, my hobby is cars/trucks. However, I do tend to combine the two and piece together some 'Hot Rod' basses. Here a few of my modified basses and equipment.

My main, #1 go-to bass. A '98 made in America, Fender Jazz bass. Modified with active EMG pickups and electonics, and a custom mounted stratocaster jack by the bridge. After 10 years of shows, tours, rehearsals the original neck was very chewed up so I recently replaced it with a more vintage looking piece.

My amp is a modular unit pieced together using various brands and parts. The head is Mesa/Boogie Basis M-2000, a discontinued unit that had a short production run in the mid 90's. It's claim to fame was that it had two individual pre-amps (One tube channel and a solid state channel) you could blend for any combination of tones. I then added a third pre-amp, an Eden WTDI through the effects loop of the Mesa head. The Eden & Mesa mix gives me some killer low end thump and thickness mixed with some edgy bite & growl. The Mesa head powers the 2x15" Mesa/Boogie Powerhouse cab ( I currently need to replace the speakers in this cab. I'm thinking of using Celestion 3015LF's). I then slave a Behringer Class D power amp that runs the Fender PRO 8x10" cab that I added a "V8" logo to the grill.

I can however mix and match and use only some of, or all of the equipment depending on the venue I'm playing and how I'm feeling that day.



My Epiphone Les Paul bass. A while back the original humbuckers stopped producing any noise so I replaced them with the weirdest pickup I could think of for bass. I used a pair of the Dimebag Darell signature pickups made by Seymour Duncan. Using the north coils only wired in series with custom electronics it's actually a very good sounded bass for that hard rock grind.



The five string, an Indonesian Squier Vintage Modified Jazz with Seymour Duncan 'Quarter Pounder' pickups and custom electronics with a series/parallel switch and a .1uf tone cap.



This bass here is the very first bass I owned, it was given by my family for X-mass when I was 15. Since, it's been modified with an added Musicman pickup by the bridge, Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder precision pickups and a Mexican Fender Jazz neck. I still, on occasion, use this bass for shows.



This bass is a very inexpensive overseas piece that I pickup just to tinker on. I completely blacked out the hardware, black pickguard, painted the headstock. Pieced together different kinds of pickups and wired them in series. It's plays well, sounds good. Not quite up to tour quality but it's a great beater and can be back-up to my back-up's back-up bass.

Killer. You have skills sir.
Love the videos and your youtube channel.
I have to say, I have always dreamed about playing bass. Although I wanted to play upright bass. But being left handed and tough family financials growing up, kind of crushed that. As a result, I pursued the hobby of photography instead.

Since I have never truly explored this, I have a question, does the 5 string play to a lower note? Noob, neophyte question.

If I had the time to dedicate, though doubtful, I want to play like this guy.

Although, I really enjoy taking photos and being outdoors. But if I can ever swing it, I will pick up a, Upton left hand bass.
