350 engine placement?
These mounts were in my 66 bolted to a seized 305. They are obviously in the forward holes but im curious about the height of the motor. Looks a little low to me. Would you keep the forward mounting position or move it back to the right spot? Do I need an electric fan setup? Thanks

Thats good news! Is your fan extremely close to the lower radiator hose coming right out of the radiator? Even though the fan is very low and not completely in front of the radiator will it still cool well? Should I ditch it and go electric?

I'm currently sorting out some cooling issues with my truck. It originally had a 230 in it and I swapped in a 350 crate motor. Before I swapped motors I changed radiators since the original was pretty well rotted out. In anticipation of the motor swap I went ahead and got the radiator for the V8. It sits on top of the frame rails as opposed to the I6 that sits between the rails and closer to the motor. Yes, the lower hose sits closer to the fan. I think a 6 cylinder radiator would probably be a better option.

If those are the original motro mount brackets from the rear location, they will not sit correctly in the forward position. For the forward position, you need the '67-'72 small block brackets. If those are the rear brackets, I would move the engine back to the rear position. One advantage to that is, you can bolt on an original style fan shroud should you discover you have a cooling issue. Plus it moves a little more weight to the rear of the truck where it is needed.

Thanks captain! Do you think the fan is high enough? I don't think a shroud would fit where it's at now. I'll def move the mounts back to the proper location. I loosely reassembled everything so I could measure for wheels. Thanks for your help everyone!

I know most buys want to run the fuel injected Motors in there old trucks But i'm never been one to use any of the new parts that the new trucks come with.Me i go buy all the factory pulleys and use the factory water pump and get all that alum from off of the motor and run the basic stuff that came on your 1972 chevy truck.The pan cake AC pump's where Jokes they never lasted and you be replace clutches up the butt.Plus the early alum brackets had flaws in the casting and would some time crack or brake.One rule you must follow if your going to run the fuel injected system use the factory harness.Painless leave most of the vital parts out or there harnesses

This motor will be converted to carb. The pulley system will be changed out as well. I guess I didn't realize the fan would move with the older setup but I guess thats exactly what I needed to know. The only reason its part way together is for marking 700r4 crossmember and to put weight on the springs so I could measure for wheels. Once everything is together properly it will all come back apart for body and paint. Thanks again for all the info!

If you were to change that engine over to a short water pump and V-groove pulleys, and installed the engine in the original position, it would be basically a factory style installation.
However, there are many guys running the serpentine accessory drive in these trucks.
