KEEP THE CAMARO AROUND, BE CAREFUL ABOUT THE WIRING, YOU CAN REUSE IT TO WIRE YOUR TRUCK THE EASY WAY.......I used the wiring for a TBI 350 in a 91 burb, ended up using the fuse block and all wiring, made the installation of the computer comtroled 350 a breeze, just plug and play and the best part is it was free. Re: ok so here goes my 66 gmc project build
I would sell the camaro and use the money to get a big block. The 305 is a small v8 and the truck is probably heavier than the camaro.

Re: ok so here goes my 66 gmc project build
these trucks are anywhere from 4000-4500 pounds i believe a inline moves them a v8 makes them fun and a big block makes em fast and need good breaks!

Re: ok so here goes my 66 gmc project build
IMO, and I know you didnt really ask for it, but....
The Chevy 305 is a fine motor, but in the weight vs power vs gas mileage the numbers just dont add up. It is not far from the weight of a 350, it does not have the HP and the gas use is not a significant amount to bother with them. I think you would be far happier with a tweaked 283 or 327, if not a small block 350... This is just my opinion from having a couple 305 engines and always sitting there looking at other guys with the motors listed above and wishing I had what they had.... (if that makes any sense) ![]() Good looking start on this build though, wish you the best of luck on it !!

Re: ok so here goes my 66 gmc project build
thankyou for the info im not gonna use the 305 gonna probably sell my camaro havent done anything to the truck theres been snow outside and my garage was kinda unfit for a motor tear down so organized it a bit so i can pull the truck in and tear her out and then im gonna sand the engine compartment what ya think should I paint it blue like the outside or go black grey silver white or chevy orange? all opinions are appreciated i got a basic idea of what im going to do but i like to see if someone else has a better Idea first

Re: ok so here goes my 66 gmc project build
i think it looks best to match all your colors so i would probably go with silver if your keeping the bumper and grill as it is now.

Re: ok so here goes my 66 gmc project build
McMurphy has some valid points about weight of the motor - a 305 Chevy Actually weighs more than a 350 they have more casting around the cylinder and a 3.735 " Bore.
Now if you already have a motor, and you're on a budget - The 305 will move that truck along fine -in 1995 My first car was a 69 nova i found for 300 bucks, needing an engine, my neighbor had a garage sale and sold me a "250hp" "Volvo Penta" motor - a marine motor from a wrecked late 70's glass boat - I literally bolted it in, and it was surprinsigly quick, then I began drag racing - It ran a mid high 14 second quarter mile, after headers, intake, carb, heads, cam, valve springs and a years worth of tinkering - It would run a low 13, I ended up buying a 400 before I ever got that 305 in the 12's! The old saying, no replacement for displacement! |

Re: ok so here goes my 66 gmc project build
if you look at the pic the roof of the hood is satin black I was plannin on a 3 tone and then on the outside doin somthin with the silver color a dezine of some sort but not sure the dezine would consist of silver and black somehow havent decided what yet got lots of ideas but im undecided yet I painted the bumper and grill satin black before I wasnt too fond of it it looked good but it wasnt what I was after I will probably paint the block blue to match the truck I think that with chrome accents will look sweet and a black engine compartment should make it all flow together thats my idea
