modern leafs from a new chevy
has anyone ever tried to mount a leaf with overload from a new chevy to their old 67-72? i want to lift my longhorn and convert to 4wd but i dont want to lose the ride OR load capacity. my brother has an 07 silverado and i was wondering if i might be able to use those on my truck. ive even thought about using the axle and trans from a wreck. metal is metal so modifications can happen if and WHEN they need to lol. but i need input before i take this challenge. anyone taken the challenge?

Re: modern leafs from a new chevy
Yes you can. A lot of people use the spring for there 4x4 for off road , the 63" spring give a lot better flex and I have also read that the longer spring improves the ride , most people swap over the frame / spring hangers with the spring.
Thank you for your service to our country. Think maybe you should search in the 4x4 section and check the 60-66 forum for some conversion threads

Re: modern leafs from a new chevy
thanks you. im more looking for a smoother ride and a bit of a lift without loosing the ability to load it up with dirtbikes and a trailer. right now i have the 8/1 springs which hold fine but when i swap to leafs up front ill need to raise the back a bit. the springs my brothers 08 has are 5/1 + 2 helpers on top. i guess ill have to fab up some helper stops somehow because i cant find any kits. ill hit up that other section and continue my research on converting to leafs up front in the mean time. thanks for the in put

Re: modern leafs from a new chevy
Go to 56" eye-to-eye leafs from an 80's 3/4 ton Suburban along with a shackle reversal from someone like Off Road Designs. This will be the easiest way to do what you want. Consider adding airbags for increased payload capabilities.
