specific fuel tank questions
i've read every thread on this board involving fuel tanks relocation and i have a couple of questions specific to my situation.
i plan on using a blazer tank in the spare tire space and putting the fuel fill under a hinged license plate. other than the spare tire cross member, are there any modifications to the frame? are there any modifications needed to be made to the tank to make it fill from the rear? does anyone sell a hinged license plate bracket, or do i need to go to the junkyard? does anyone make a patch panel to cover the original fill location? is there a need for a different fuel pump because of the different location? thanks alot for any help you guys might be able to offer. this board is an invaluable resource as i get into the meat and potatoes of the resto. |

I can answer one of your questions. ebfabman made a insert that you weld in place where the filler was. I believe he is selling it also.
hope this helps, don

The hole can be welded up with a replacement cab corner. The corner has the exact same contour as the upper section including the hole that needs filled.
The fuel pump will be fine. Hinged plate holders can still be bought at the dealer for about 30 bucks or so. A problem with your filler location though, the filler spot will be at about the same height, if not lower than the top of the tank. So you will not be able to do it. You can have the filler hidden behinde the tainlight or side marker, but that taked some pretty good fab skills there. |

You will have to chop 1 1/2" out to the bed cross sill. Not a fun job when the box is on the truck.

If you are looking for a hinged plate bracket just go to any wrecker and check those late 70's early 80's full size cars, lots of them had those. Probably a 5 buck item, if that.
