I painted my bumpers and grill today
Ok, so one of the previous owners of my 66 painted the grill and front bumper with some aluminum color paint. It looked horrible and gave my truck a monochromatic appearance.I have always liked the nostalgic appearance of the bumpers and grill painted white. my rear bumper was white ok rust lol and needed a lot of love.
I removed the grill (3 screw on each side located on the front underside of the inner fender wells) and sanded it with 150 then 320 and painted it with several thin coats of ace hardware's premium enamel gloss white spray paint, allowing 15 minutes of flash time in between coats. The bumpers had a lot of paint on them ,so I grabbed the orbital and some 60 grit and took them to bare metal . I had to do a good bit of sanding paying special attention to the pitted areas. Then I sprayed them with several thin coats of high build primer allowing 10 minutes of flash time in between coats. after a couple hours of drying time I sanded them lightly with 320 grit paper followed up by a final sanding using a scotch brite pad.then wiped them down good with a prep towel I applied several thin coats of the gloss white allowing 15 minutes flash time in between coats. I used a can of white on the grill, and a can on the front bumper, as well as a can on the rear. The one can of high build primer was enough for both bumpers. the bumpers were painted on the truck and you would never know, just take time to mask properly avoiding over spray. I am VERY pleased with the results it took roughly 6 hours and $40 and made a huge difference .Ok,picture time!! before and after |

Re: I painted my bumpers and grill today
Yes,actually, the whole truck will be painted in the not so distant future. The bumpers and grill were an eyesore and I figured I could handle that
