Top help please

I'm installing the top on my Blazer for the first time. (first time for me). I'm having a time figuring out the latches and handle assembly, but I'll eventually get it. My problem is that when the hatch is closed there is enough room to put your fingers between the hatch and the tail gate. What am I missing? Or is this maybe an after market hatch that wasn't made to size well. The tailgate is smooth - no letters. It must be after market. Could it be short? It looks correct. Sorry - - no pics. Camera died.

Re: Top help please

If your tailgate is smooth it most likely is a repro gate. Does it have the tailgate strip screwed to the top of the tailgate that the rear hatch sets on when both are closed? My guess is the tailgate was replaced and that strip may have been left off. Sometimes people will use truck gates to replace their blazer gate which is fine, but the difference is the strip that screws to the top of the tailgate. LMC still carries them I believe. If your gate does have that strip then i'm not to sure what the problem would be without seeing a picture. Hope that helps.

Re: Top help please

There is a metal strip that screws into the top of the tailgate. Thats what you are missing I bet.
Jdubs must have posted at the same time I did, sorry for the redundency.

Re: Top help please

I have the tail gate strip (I bought it here) but have not put it on. Not sure how it goes and cannot see how it is going to solve the problem. Is there a rubber strip that goes on it? I don't have any rubber on the one I have and can't find anyone that sells any such rubber strip. LMC doesn't show it.
Thanx for the help. Input.

Re: Top help please

There should be rubber around the inner edge of the hatch.

We might be more helpful if you could post a pic of the problem.

Re: Top help please

Here is a front and back view of mine. Pay no attention to the chrome, I just did that because I thought it would be more durable than the paint. The
back/ bottom/rubber seal of the hatch rests against it as I recall. Top and hatch are at the body shop right now. Maybe there is another issue on yours that I am not aware of?
