Clouded windshield. Any way to fix it?
I noticed my windshield is clouded in the lower corners. I've cleaned the glass, and also taken a razor blade flat edge to it, but nothing seems to phase it. It's kind of a cloudy white film. Must be baked into the glass somehow, but I'm not sure.
Any ideas to take care of it? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Clouded windshield. Any way to fix it?
I'm guessing your rocker panels and door bottoms are rusted too? It's more than likely water damage from a rusted through rain rail above the windshield. It leaks through the rain rail, runs down the windshield, and down to the doors.
Mine did that too. I guess it's common on our trucks. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Clouded windshield. Any way to fix it?
You can fix it by buying a new one! Lol....
If you have insurance ask them about replacement of it. Tell them it's a safety issue. They may pay for it. In SC if a rock hit's it are anything for that matter they will pay to have it fixed are replaced for free.

I recently had mine replaced by a guy in Park City. $170, IIRC.

My friend, "nothing" in life is truly free, especially if an insurance company is involved. You will pay for that "free" fix sooner or later.

Re: Clouded windshield. Any way to fix it?
Don't know about your state, but my comprehensive insurance (Nationwide) paid for (Safe-light) to replace my windshield and new Precision gasket. Not free, but considering I've paid for insurance for many years with no claims, I figure it was "paid for". Give your insurance co. a call. The installer turned out to be a "car guy" and knew exactly how to get it done. He even gave me about 1/2 hour to spray to top of my dash with some flat red paint (to reduce glare) while he had to glass out. A real plus.

I know we are paying a little extra for that coverage, but we have had 4 replaced in about that many years, so I think it is worth it

You lost me on this one??? I understand the rain rail and down the windshield part possibly clouding the windshield, but how do you jump the path of water to the door bottoms and rocker panels when they are completely separate panels? I am fairly certain the lower door rust is that the weather stripping for the side glass has rotted away. That would be the most direct path for water to the bottom of a door. As for the rocker panel.... depends where you live. In the north it was from salty winter roads. Just my two cents. |

Re: Clouded windshield. Any way to fix it?
As a temporary fix until I get some days off, I went to Home Depot and bought what is called Plasti-dip. It's basically like spray paint, but when it drys it turns to a rubber and is pretty tough and sealable, then once you want it gone, you simply just peel it off.
-it's not the stuff on the "screen door" commercial we've all seen. Haha. You actually can't tell the difference between it and regular paint. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Clouded windshield. Any way to fix it?
Mister B, you will love a new windshield, its like having a new truck, nice clear glass. You will wonder why you waited so long to have it put in. Have a new windshield gasket on hand for the guys to use instead of the old one.
Yes my truck has a new windshield, that's how I know!

Having said that, my '69 c10 still has all the original glass. Considering asking if my insurance company will replace it free to eliminate the pitted glass 'galaxy effect' since it becomes a safety issue. They did it for my old Mustang. One advantage not having one of those discount online carriers. Be gone little Gecko dude

That's a nice windshield. Thanks for the offer! How much do you think shipping would be? What area of the windshield is that spot located? Posted via Mobile Device |
