an "enlighting" idea

Wasnt really sure where to post this but I was working on my 62 this evening welding my notch in and had to be a little creative. My garage is not very well lit and I usually stop working when the sun goes down but I've had the same problem when working in tight dark spots... when the helmet is on, i cant see where the tip is. Thinking quickly, I grabbed this thing I've dubbed "the nerd light" and strapped it around the welding helmet. Since it is an LED light, it lit up my work area very nicely ...No more guessing where my tip is!! Thinking about removing the strap and just super gluing it on my welding helmet. Has anyone else had a problem welding/working in dark areas?

Looks like a great idea...wish I'd have thought of that about 2 years ago! As long as the reflection doesn't trigger the auto-darkening. I'd definitely be securing it on there somewhere. If you're anything like me you have a hard enough time keep the helmet on in awkward places much less a headlamp on the helmet!

Yeah, I think I have to dial up the sensitivity a little but it would do the auto darkening thing when the weld arced. The light has a base that allows it to angle up or down so if I find the light is causing too much of a problem, I can angle it out of the way. It also has a red bulb that is not as bright.

All I know, my welds are improving just with this little modification which makes me a very happy boy

Where to start with the puns.....hmmm.

I assume this isn't an auto-darken helmet? or is it?
Mine's an auto darken, and the problem I have is that when using a trouble light or rough duty light, it always causes my mask to darken when I don't want to , even with the sensitivity adjusted.
