Rochester Quadrajet Kits - What's best?
I am preparing to have my carburetor rebuilt again. Last time I did not know enough about them and what was available as far as kits concern. That was four years ago. I have learned that it helps to know which model carb I have. It's an '86 Chevy C20 with SBC 350, VIN code M with a TH400 transmission.
Engine trouble symptoms started about 4 months ago - 1st loosing power, rough idle and missing or hesitating while driving. Then it would also shift erratically. Since then, the truck has been serviced and found bad plugs and timing was off. The truck now runs stronger and smoother, yet it is popping with some backfire issues and "rich". Next week I plan to consult with my mechanic friend about rebuilding the carb and start working his way down to make it satisfactory. I have looked into a number of kits and wondered which one to buy. Has anyone have experience with one from Cliff Ruggles or Mike's Carburetor parts? How about one from Summit, Napa, Advance Auto, etc.?

Re: Rochester Quadrajet Kits - What's best?
Summit is the one I know, and I would use their kit. Cliff or Mikes maybe local guys, and they can be great because you can get a little tech support too. You'll just need local verification.
Get the Q-jet rebuild book. Its a big help when it comes to reassembly. As for the numbers. The Q-jet has a bunch cast on it. Its a matter of finding the right one. |

I just bit the bullet a few days ago to resolve my bleed down issue and rebuilt mine. dident need re built but the fuel was bleeding off over night. I used a walker kit from o rielly cheap and complete 18 bucks and 10 for a new float which wasent needed. I was happy with this kit came with the foam price for under the well holes which I've not seen most cheap kits come with. just fair warning use a good epoxy turns out my issue was all the old jb weld I used years ago dident hold up to this ethanol fuel it was all gone and grey film was all that was left in the bottom of the baseplate
