Dual tank VS Single tank "Production tank"
I have an interesting question. It may have no answer now...
I've had 1973, 74, 75, 78, 79, 85, & CUCV (M1008) trucks configured with a single tank. The tank was on the LH side on all of the trucks. I don't recall ever seeing a single tank square with a RH filler. When I look at the wiring diagrams for Dual tank setups 73-80 "Production" is the LH and AUX is RH. In the 1981+ wiring diagrams the "Production" tank is on the RH side. My 85 and CUCV single tank trucks had/have the tank on the LH side. I thought "Production" meant the tank that would be installed if the truck didn't have dual tanks.

Re: Dual tank VS Single tank "Production tank"
My 76 is a single tank truck and the tank is located on the passenger side. My 80s trucks that were single tanks were located on driver's side.
From what I could always tell, if you were 1978 or older the primary tank is installed on the passenger side, and if you are 1979 or newer the primary tank is driver side. |

Re: Dual tank VS Single tank "Production tank"
Same as my 76 and now the M1008.
Non of my squares were new to me. Sounds like the POs made them driver friendly. My 73, 78, & 79 had home brew stake boxes with one tank on the driver side. The 74 & 75 had later year beds with a filler door and one tank on the driver side. Sounds like they were 80's beds. When did they change the production tank from RH to LH mounted? It sounds like 1979 to 1980.
