in bed tire mount
Which is the best one that looks close to
the real thing, when the truck was ordered with that option? The only one I can find is LMC and I'm always hesitant when ordering from them! I've tried to do a search and a member built this trick looking one but for a guy that can't weld I need to buy one Thanks in advance |

Re: in bed tire mount
The original in bed spare tire is a bolt in item.
I think you have to drill holes into the inner edge of the upper box side, which is what would have happened on the assembly line, and then I believe it uses/shares a couple of the lower box/bed mount bolts. If I was you I would contact Bill Peeters out at Bills (Classic) Truck Shop in Oshawa (905.725.3460)....he can help you out all day long on this one with either the parts or the procedure. Good luck and post some pics when you get it done!!! Coley

Re: in bed tire mount
If you are interested in a picture of a original I could snap one or two this weekend when I go home.

I am having a buddy fabricate one for me. Only mine is going to be mounted to the back of my tool box on the passengerside.

Re: in bed tire mount
For a factory RPO P13 or an accessory these should help picture wise. Remember there were also aftermarket versions too. The assembly manual also has the factory locations for SWB and LWB trucks.

Re: in bed tire mount
I have a question..
I have the optional spare tank, that has the welded in square tube going down to the floor of the back. Could you order the exterior tire with this tank option? Would they put the tire in a different place.. or would it still fit? J.

Re: in bed tire mount
If you have the RPO NL2 factory aux tank the cover is not welded down. But to answer your question, we answered this a while ago for Pete and I have since seen a SPID for a truck equipped with both NL2 and P13.

Re: in bed tire mount
The were sold over the counter as accessories too. People would put them anywhere. The correct locations are just forward of the left wheel tube. it was fairly common to see them as dual mounts too behind the tubs, but this was not "factory"
