Detroit Diesel Thread
We can't have a GM big truck message board w/o a thread on Detroit Diesels. These GM diesels came in all sorts of rigs. Let's talk, look, and listen a while.
I have to start with this video. I love it!

Re: Detroit Diesel Thread
the very first 6-71's I was around, several of these still roam the waters of Alaska being fish tenders, Paired 6-71's twin screw....individually reversible, pretty capable craft even today.

Re: Detroit Diesel Thread
Tim,
It is interesting that your first post is a Farm tractor with a Detroit. I have a 2-53 Detroit in my '59 John Deere 435. Bill

Re: Detroit Diesel Thread
Devin,
It's great to hear that truck again. Years ago there was a site that had just "Detroit Diesel Sounds" and no videos. It had everything on there from a 3-53 to a 12V-71 and the "Big Red Express" was one of them. The site went blank 2 or 3 years ago. Sure glad you posting it. Bill

I went to waybackmachine (internet archive) but it appears the site can only search via the URL. (Thought I might be able to pull up some old material.) And thanks Tim for starting this. ...what a great way to start my day! .

Re: Detroit Diesel Thread
Ah, to remember the hours upon days of cruising with a screamin' Jimmy behind my head.
Still in use, although being phased out by the C-15 powered LVSR, I present the USMC LVS: Now slap on some quick and dirty armor, change out the rear unit for a 16 (5th wheel) and add an 870 (semi trailer) and that's where I spent quite a few convoys on deployment. Standard fare for crossing the Afghan desert is to bungee a bed roll on the bottom of the dash, buckle your Kevlar, and hold on! Leaf spung and flying across the desert whoops only get better with speed until she gets some air under those tires and landing isn't pretty. Very reliable power plant that sounds even nastier when the muffler falls off and it's straight out of the 8v92TA's turbo. Annoying and deafening, but nasty.

This classy Cannonball has been around for quite few years:
Here's one from the inside (10spd Road Ranger) Another ride on a Cannonball: Here's that nice 950 KQQL IT showed in another thread: And a Brookway 12V71

Re: Detroit Diesel Thread
Pics of a couple of motors in my collection, who would really collect DD motors anyway? well, one is a 353DD, and the other is 16v71 twin turbo engine, 1 of 2 that I have.
