Interior Question

I have charcoal interior in my 1986 c10, and I need to find a vinyl dye to match. I have seen gray vinyl dyes, but this is darker.

Does anyone have this option code (118D), and have do you know of a quality vinyl dye that matches. Or any company that will match it.

Here is the op code as it reads in the glove box:

118D L J J 1 Charcoal Custom

Is the ljj1 the paint code?

Thanks for the help.

(In the picture there is a carpet cover on the dash, I will get a better picture if we need it.)

Re: Interior Question

I wish I could help you here but I have absolutely no experiemce with dyes. I have seen alot of people use aerosol cans but not the dye. Surely someone will step in and give some guidance.

Re: Interior Question

Did you ever find an over the counter solution that matches? I tried the duplicolor dark gray aerosol and its not anywhere near close to being dark enough. I May just order one of every brand I can buy find until I find a good match if you haven't found a good one yet to recommend.

Re: Interior Question

You might try to find a local SEM paint dealer so that you could look at their color chart and see what might work.

Re: Interior Question

I went to a local auto paint dealer that mixes up auto paint and can put it in a custom aerosol can. When there they had a product for painting vinyl that they could tint to any color and also put in a custom aerosol. I used this on my 79 dually and it has held up great. Maybe you have something of this nature locally.

I looked at the SEM line and didn't see one that the cap looked near dark enough, I'm still going to buy some of the Granite color though just to see if it will work.

Bilfman- I Think this may be the best option so far and yesterday I called a few places that mix paint and found a few within an hour drive that can mix a paint for vinyl but none that can put it in a rattle can. I may wind up using one of those mini aerosol that you screw the jar on the bottom filled with your liquid paint. I'd rather find some already ready to go if possible though.

Slammed 84- I agree, In my personal opinion I don't think there is a better color for the 81-87 guts. Here is a photo of my current 86 I'm re-doing and a picture of my 87 I traded off a few years back (still kicking myself in the ass for that one) It had every piece of billet you could buy for it minus the steering column.

I have to say I like your current interior better. I'm not a big fan of billet accents. To be honest the only thing I really like being chrome is wheels.

Although I love the brushed aluminum stuff. I scored a perfect Dash Bezel from a salvage here in tulsa, for an a/c truck for only $40 bucks. Also picked up the best factory dash pad I have ever come across in a salvage. It stills has a couple slight cracks and was awful faded but compared to most it was nice. I painted it black for now, it'll work til I can really restore my truck someday.

Re: Interior Question

Nice score on the bezel. Good parts trucks are getting thin down here in southern ok also so I appreciate the good find when one pops up. And yeah I'm not a huge fan of the billet and don't plan to put it on my current one, but it did look really good just bc there was so much of it. This one will look 100% stock inside except for the steering wheel and tach

What is it you have to dye?

I love that interior, I'm jealous. I live in Tulsa if you ever decide to change your interior!!

No - the LJJ1 is the "quck spec" code for the interior combination.

Re: Interior Question

I'm restoring my father in laws 1977 GMC High Sierra and I found this dash in a southern truck salvage yard and dyed it charcoal grey which was a 1985 color. I wanted to mix up the interior in it....I went with oyster white factory pickup buckets and console with matching door panel inserts and headliner. Everything else trimwise is this charcoal grey color. The interior is striking.....I love the charcoal grey color a lot!

Re: Interior Question

I seem to remember the door panels having factory color options on the back and the spot for "charcoal" was "x"ed as being the color of the panels.

Re: Interior Question

Any chance the parts truck has a dash pad you'd be looking to sell?
