I try to not remove that rivet. I remove the rivets from the "hinge bracket", instead.

If you could show some pics of the process that would be cool

Re: Wing vent rivett's
Lolife99 I watched the video percision put out. Bought the plastic stick they used from them also. Sounds like you have done a few. Does it go as good in person as it does in the video? Any tips?

I haven't watched the Precision video. (I will) Having the correct rivet tool is a BIG help. Having an extra set of hands also helps. I did mine by myself. Look here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=473629&page=5 (not much detail,... just a few pics)

I have the Aero-Rivet Tool from Man Machine Interface.
I bought mine here: http://www.zip-corvette.com/ProductD...L2-SR&CTitle=&

Re: Wing vent rivett's
The biggest tip would be to not take apart the very top of the vent rubber frame.
It's almost impossible to reassemble it. I remove the two rivets in the hinge bracket and the lower frame rivet.

Re: Wing vent rivett's
Lolife99 That rivet tool you bought looks like the way to go. But the price is steep. I think i will try the five dollar one from classic. I wonder if i could use the cheeper tool in my arbor press and not use a hammer? That guy in the video was tired when he was done with one vent. I enjoy this kind of stuff but it looks like this job will take some time. I am looking forward to it.

I have this idea to make a "die holder" to work on a set of small c-clamp visegrip jaws. One side needs to be flat,... the other side would have to have the crimping die shape too it. But I think it would be faster.

Re: Wing vent rivett's
I will do as you say and not take the top apart and not remove the pivot rivet.

Re: Wing vent rivett's
So those rivets are pretty soft? I could cut the end off the classic tool and weld it on vice grips if you think they have the clamping force needed to shape the rivets.

Re: Wing vent rivett's
My rivet tool crimps them pretty easily with a 1/4" drive ratchet.
I think the visegrips could be made to work. May take a couple of "squeezes" to complete the crimp.

Re: Wing vent rivett's
I've heard of people using normal (small) pop rivets to rebuild their vent windows. might be an option if originality isnt an issue, maybe someone will chime in on how well they work.

Re: Wing vent rivett's
When it's all assembled with new felts and seals you won't see the non original pop rivets, makes the job much easier.
