Will a 2010 14 bolt fit an 87
My friend got his hands on a 14 bolt rear out of a 2010 silverado, I was wondering if this would fit under my 87 because he thinks its a posi, we are gonna check it, and he will sell to me for 300, less than it would cost me to lock my 14 bolt sf. My main concern is the driveshaft

It will fit and the posi will be a g80 gov loc which is still a crappy posi at best r u sure it's a 14 bolt and not then 11.5 AAM axle? Is the truck a duramax?

The spring pads will have to be moved and re welded on and the u joints will probably be larger than your 87. The aam 1150 is basically a 14 bolt just bigger. Same overall design

It will bolt right in not the 11.5 AAM it will need the perches moved the difference is in the diff cover design the 14 bolt has a smooth bottom and the AAM will have an almost pointed bottom of the diff cover

Late model axles are also wider than your stock axle. 10.5 and 11.5 are the same width for the same applications (Dual, Single, Cab/Chassis). Best bet is to take a tape measure to your truck and to the axle and decide if the work and width is worth it to you. The factory g80s are nothing to write home about but they tend to live longer in 10.5/11.5 than they do in 10 bolts / 9.5s.
I run a 2005 11.5 in the back of my 68 K20 for the strength and disc brakes. There are some details in the build thread in my signature.

Does the 10.50 have the disc brakes on it too?

Re: Will a 2010 14 bolt fit an 87
It will not bolt right in i assure you, the perches will have to be moved. For mine which is a 2005 it was 3in wider than my semi floater that came out or 1.5 on each side. Do not be a hero and try to save the old perches and buy these http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/...ch_p_1485.html and cut the old ones just above the axle and grind them down. As far as the u-joints go im pretty positive after checking auto zones website a 2500 truck will have the 1350 while the 2500hd has the the 1410 which is the one i have and i can't find a jump joint from my old u-joint to the 1410 but since im having a driveshaft built that doesn't bother me. I also had a slight problem depending on how you look at it the aam pinion area ended up being 2in shorter than my semi float i checked this by looking at my slip yoke and now my drive shaft is basically about to fall out lol but for swb trucks that would help i guess.
To my knowledge the 14 bolt bible hasn't been updated for the aam axles

Re: Will a 2010 14 bolt fit an 87
This might be a rediculous question but, I took my 14 bolt sf apart last night with then intent to weld the spiders and found out its actually a broken posi. The little gear by the spiders has several areas where it's missing teeth (three spots missing about 8 teeth and one missing about 4) and the little piece that turns it is missing two of the four teeth it has. Would the carrier from the 2010 fit in my sf? Just throwing ideas around. I know the ring gears are different sizes
