What's the best 700r4 to look for year truck van car ?????

any year will be good. i would just really search for the cheapest one you can find and have it rebuilt. I paid $50 for one and turned around and put $1000 into a rebuild...thats corvette shift kit, 2500 stall, and installed. But realistic cost could be up to about $1600.
If you dont find one let me know and you could look at possibly getting one shipped to ready to install. My trans guy will do that. |

I've always been told that a '87-'92 are the best to use to rebuild.

They did constant revisions to the valve bodies and oil control and what not. The newer the better but after 87 I think they changed the amount of splines in the oil pump that made a big difference in realibility The othe revision came along I think a year or so later so I would say if you can get a 90 or 91 your in good shape, of course the older ones could be updated I assume but we all know what happens when we do that.One of the main thing is to get a good cooler and make sure the trans stays cool, it hates hot fluid come to think of it I do to.

My trans guy has always told me to get the newest one I can. With the constant updates GM was doing on them through production, the newer ones will require less improvements from the trans builder and consequently be cheaper to overhaul and update.
That said, I try to get them out of full size vans. They kept the cable driven speedometer later than trucks did. Posted via Mobile Device |

87-92 is the one you want. Corvettes and Police cars have the best "guts", but really doesn't matter much. Vans are a good source. If you get one with an electronic speedo, you can swap the tailhousing.
