Oops, Rust got me

Well I guess I will be looking for a new "atleast to me" support and inner fenders. Oh well, could be alot worse.

i agree, a great place to learn (if your just getting into rust repair) since it's hidden pretty easy i did mine that way.

Typical spot for rust n corrosion under the battery tray in that corner. After repairs make sure you coat those parts for some protection. There is a repair panel for the core support in that area that is real easy to do.

I have been looking for a repair panel for the piece on the core support that turns and bolts to inner fender but can only find the whole support. If that piece is available can you point me in the right direction?

Here is a repair panel but says 69-72. But don't believe much difference in the years. I'm sure other vendors have these also this was just a quick search.

gosh, mine quite a bit worse then that, but I think I can still save it, I will have to get me one of them patches...

Anyone know how long that patch piece is from brothers?
and how about a patch for the wheel well? or am I stuck making my own patches? I'm not holding out much hope finding one in the scrap yard that is any better then mine.

That repair panel covers from the rad in his pic to the right. Done one of these before without knowing what to look for you won't really notice it. After all it is under battery tray also. For your wheel well that would require another inner fender. Doubtful you would find that inner tub panel in decent shape. Just use a repop replacement for that. They are not hard to replace.

Thanks Sammy, my rust goes a little further over, toward the rad, I'm thinking I'm going to just fab it up and not worry about the patch that I have to add to anyway. I'm not worried about it being factory perfect, as long as its strong and rust free ill be happy...

I grew up in Moscow Mills up on 61... born is St Charles. not to far from you.

I have a 67 core now I am debating on repairing. Of all places it is has cheese holes under the rad after I blasted it. Under the battery tray is good go figure.

Hey guys, greatly appreciate all your input. I would love to learn how to weld to repair rust since I am sure rocker panels will need replacement. However, at this time I think I will just buy new pieces (support and inner fenders) and replace them. It would be alot faster for me.

Well got the support and both inner fender wells removed. Only had to cut two bolts. I would that wasnt to bad for bolts that have never been removed.
