Cheap Seats

Does anyone in Phoenix have any experience with these seats? The price is very low, but I wonder about the comfort/durability.

Re: Cheap Seats

Looks like a regular dealer is selling them, so why not call him? Shipping can't be that much. When I got the Recaros for my old Honda years ago I had them shipped (from Cali, I think) and they came via freight (truck) and the price was not bad (about $45 I think) - helps if you have them shipped to a commercial address.

Personally, I would have a forum brother in Phoenix put "butt in seat" before I would purchase sight unseen.

Of course, the price is what it would cost to have one seat reupholstered. I wonder what he has for mounting hardware/sliders?

Re: Cheap Seats

I am in yuma so i am not too far away, you could have him send you photos with someone sitting in them to see if they appear to have "cushion" or see if its like sitting on plywood. you could probably still try to offer less than the asking, especially as the add gets older.

Re: Cheap Seats

I talked to the guy at the Pomona swap meet a few months ago. The seats come out of Limo conversions I think it is what he said. I know the H2 middle seat I got came out of a Limo conversion.

I looked at the bottoms, and the way I am going to swap mine in is to cut the sliding base off another bench. Then I will cut the brackets down on my seat then weld them to the C10 base. Those seats like mine are just bolted down to the body in the factory installation. So the body helps set it in the proper orientation when bolted down. So when you have your base set it at the level it sits in your truck. That way you can set it up the way you need/want it. If you just weld brackets to the bench base you'll be low riding. So play around a bit, and see if you want to adjust your height or recline.

Re: Cheap Seats

nice ones
I work with disabled people
they can also come out of modified vans/trucks etc for wheelchairs
a couple i know sent a van to be modified
newer dodge with the flip to hide floor seats
they knew the foor holes were being removed and the seats but
they kept the seats without mentioning it,in the contract
when asked they said...."they throw them out",
the couple was told
didn't take me long to find them for sale,on a local swap site, when confronted
they said it was someone selling them out the back door, told fired
and sent another set,by courier

don't buy the floor flip seats, not comfy, very thin,
and ask questions!

Van as bought,normal floor
nice console MIA,
after lowered floor,body raised 5 /floor lowered 6 /total of 11 inches
rear seats removed, except at the back

these Vans cost as much to mod, as to buy

Re: Cheap Seats

I just used stock bench seat sliders, and bolted down 1" angle iron between the 2. Then mounted my seats on top. Works quite well.

Really? That's ridiculous. Seats at self service yards here are $40. Doesn't matter what they're from.

Reason #3,825 that Oklahoma is better than Texas.

Re: Cheap Seats

You can get seats for $40 at the junkyards here also, but they usually have been rotting out in the desert sun for a long time, and subject to insect/vermin invasion. Real nice seats are taken out and kept inside - example: late model Silverado/Sierra seats go for $250/$500 and often need some seat foam/recovering work. Craigslist here is the same - people here want good money for good seats.

Most of the seats out in the yard here are junk too. But there are good ones to be had with a little luck.

I caught an '01 Burb about an hour after they'd pulled it into the yard. Still had the 3rd row seat in it. I pulled it out, paid $40. I have no doubt that a worker would have pulled it sometime that day and put it on CL for $250. 01+ Silverados never seem to be at the self service yards, and the full service places want $250. Found a guy parting one out on CL, paid $150 for the 40/20/40.

Overall $250 isn't bad for seats, but there are better deals out there. Just have to be patient and look.

Re: Cheap Seats

Those are second row seats from a Toyota Sienna mini van. They are comfortable, but you may want to go down to a dealer yourself and try first! Also take measurements/pictures to be sure you can use them. Just my advice...........

Good advice. At 56" wide they should be ok. I forget what the inside cab dimensions are, but the back seat of a K5 (between the wheel wells) is 47". Inside wheel wells are what? 6-8" each?

Re: Cheap Seats

There's a guy on another forum (I've seen him post pics on this forum as well) that converted those same seats (Honda odyssey) to a Square. Came out real nice. Said the same thing, he got em off a guy that was selling them from a wheelchair accessible van conversion.

Re: Cheap Seats

I bought a pair and had them in my 78 camper special, motornut was correct when he said they were frm vehicles being modified for wheelchair access.
To mount all I did was take a 2" x 1/8" metal strap shape it to the existing cab mounts, drill and blot the drilled holes for the new seats. I also kept my stock seat belts a pushed them through.
They are a tight fit and you cannot use the side cup holder, but I liked them and they matched up pretty good.

Re: Cheap Seats

Does anyone know if these seats have the LATCH system integrated into the bottom? Would be great to have a new comfy seat option to replace my holy seat in my 78, as well as a safe attachment point if I ever want to take the kid along.

I have the Honda Odyssey seats (3rd from bottom in craiglist pics). I bought them at the Pomona auto swap meet in California. I bought them for around $300. Very comfortable and look great.

Re: Cheap Seats

I'd like to know what those top 5 sets are in the craigslist ad. I've been looking for a way to retrofit a shoulder belt to the middle for awhile now, and those seats look great. Someone said a Toyota Sienna minivan, I think?
