flex plate troubles.

So lately my truck has not been having luck with starters. burned one up,grinds etc. yesterday i jumped into the old beast and when i went to start it it made a girding noise. but started. went to pay some bills came out and the starter did it's thing but sounded like it wasn't "meshing" to the flex plate after 5-7 trys finally cought and i brought it home and parked it, only thing i can come up with is my flex plat is frigged. the starter is a brand new high torque with off set mounting holes.

someone please help loosing my mind with this.

Re: flex plate troubles.

When i got the 78 it was,a "crunchy" to start
replaced starter,didn't help
realized the flywheel looked worn(not all the way around, maybe 3 evenly spaced out areas)
didn't know how bad till out ,and compared to a new one
no shims

Re: flex plate troubles.

Take the inspection cover off and check the teeth, you may just need to shim the starter
