I don't know if it'll work or not, but '70s Dusters have an oval-shaped shifter boot, and trim ring (black, actually, not chrome). It has a round opening for the shifter handle to go through, not rectangular like many '60s/'70s muscle car shifters had for a Hurst shift handle.
I have one on my '61 Suburban with a round shift handle. It looks "right" on our trucks. I don't know the exact dimensions of the factory T-case boot or handle, but the Duster one might work. Got to any muscle car supplier's website to take a look. I got mine from YearOne when I worked there. -Brad

My 66 had a round boot retainer ring on it, but no boot. I know the shifter is on the driver's side on my 66 versus the passenger side on the 60-61, but figured the boot would be the same. My current plan is to use the same pleated oval boot and retainer from a 73 transmission shifter for both my trans and transfer case since these are being remanufactured by the aftermarket industry, unlike a lot of the early 60s stuff. I know it won't be original style but I think it gives a reasonably period correct appearance.

If it doesn't have to be a exact match, you might look at a big truck supplier, we have a local shop "haulers supply" I got a shift boot there last week. They had about 5 to chose from. Just a thought

I looked at the illustrations book I carry with me in my laptop bag and found an illustration for a boot on a transmission. I got the group number from the illustration and then went to gmpartswiki.com. From the search box I filled in all the info for your application and looked at the pages. It's easier to carry an illustration book than the thick Parts Books. I started driving truck again so gmpartswiki gives me a chance to help out away from my books. I'm in Beaver Dam Wisconsin today then somewhere else tomorrow. There is a book for NAPCO applications reproduced. I have one at home and haven't scanned it to my laptop yet. I have to get a portable scanner for on the road. Sure. Here are a couple pictures of my truck. The boots and retainers haven't been shaped to the hump contours, or screwed down, yet. But you get the general idea.
Both are boots and retainers from a 73. The transfer case boot from a 72 is smaller and angled which lends itself better to the way the shifter pitches forward. However while I could find an aftermarket boot I couldnt find the retainer. I suppose you could have one laser cut or water jetted or plasma cut. Posted via Mobile Device

i called this morning and talked with a guy who said it would be possible to do ,but would take 9 months to a year, he referred me to someone else higher on the chain. i left a message with him and am waiting on his call back

J.Kirn, do you have a picture of the original one again? The link to the Photobucket account says the picture was removed or deleted.
My truck came with 2 boots, but I do not know if they are correct. I can try to take pics of what I have tonight if I get off work early enough. |
