72 gmc front cross member to 68 chevy?
I located an 8 lug front cross member that I would like to put in my 68 but I thought I'd double check. In 72 where the gmc and chevy crossmembers the same? They are both 3/4 ton.

Re: 72 gmc front cross member to 68 chevy?
Question, why convert a 72 to something older, why not just buy a 67 Truck ?
Just my .2 cents...Its what I'd do atleast

Cool, it's a 72 going into a 68. Sorry if that was confusing. I've been wanting disc brakes on my 68 for a couple years now

Re: 72 gmc front cross member to 68 chevy?
I converted my 69 1/2 ton by swapping the complete frontmember with one from a 73 model, it indeed bolded right on after I had to drill 2 extra holes.
apart from that it's a 3 hour job if the nuts and bolts come off easily. I removed my headers to get easier acces to the north-south facing bolts

Re: 72 gmc front cross member to 68 chevy?
Are you using the 68 power steering gearbox? Assuming its got power steering. I'm putting 85 spindles and ball joints on my 68 with the 68 control arms. Using the 68 crossshaft with the adapter tie rod sleeves and 85 outer tie rods and 68 outers in the inner position. Just wondering if your having to change you steering box or pitman arm, idler arm...?

Re: 72 gmc front cross member to 68 chevy?
i havent gotten that far in figuring out the steering but im grabbing all the steering linkage from the pump on down so i can have plenty of parts to work with. my 68 has power steering. my brother is doing all the work for me since im nowhere near my truck. i could give you more details when he gets his hands on the parts. i asked him to take plenty of pictures to document it. its possible ill be doing the same thing you are, eagle. i have the link from above and my brother will be following those suggestions to do it.
