81 c10 bed removal
Was thinking about removing my bed. How hard would it be?

Re: 81 c10 bed removal
bumper, bed bolts, unplug taillight harness, fuel filler hose & ground (or 2 for duals). if the whole bed bolt starts to turn, stop & cut them off before the square hole gets wrecked

Re: 81 c10 bed removal
Just did this last Saturday. Lucky for me the po had mine off not long ago. 6 bolts, tailgate, roll pan, fuel filler and wiring and it was ready to come off. Took 3 of us to remove it and set it back in place. I would really recommend at least 4 people, especially if it is a long bed. Mine is a swb.

Re: 81 c10 bed removal
Easy. Have a helper stand on the top of the bed carriage bolts to keep them from moving up and rounding out the square opening in the bed as you go.
Two healthy men can carry a SWB, one on each wheel well. Never tried a LWB, I imagine it would be out of balance.

Re: 81 c10 bed removal
I've used either a chainfall (engine hoist or come-along attached to the rafters) or a hydraulic engine hoist on mine, so that I could do it by myself.

Re: 81 c10 bed removal
Nice idea Keith, I like the 2x4.
Reminds me, when using human power, remove the tailgate first.
