My 78 crew cab dually build

Here is some pics of my other project. Its a 78 crew cab dually that I shortened last fall and have not had a chance to mess with lately. Finally got around to rewiring the dually fender lights and installing the roll pan on it. Currently has a 454 and 4 speeed in it but soon swapping to a 350 tbi and 700r4 to be a little more fuel and highway friendly. After that time to get the stance a lot closer to the ground and go from there.

Thanks I like the color also it matches pretty close to my other trucks factory color. I plan to drop it another 4-5 inches. I already thinned down the rear leaves done to 4 or 5 leaves when I did the shortening of the frame. I also have another set of doors to swap on since these have rust in the rear doors and the front doors are messed up from the old big mirrors. It will take time but will be fun when the work is finished and I can drive it more.

I ordered a pair of drop spindles today and gonna start fabbing up my rear flip kit and c notch hope to be a lot lower in a couple weeks time.

Spindles on and I cut one and a half coils off. Now time to order some perches up and build me a flip kit. Turned out lower than I dreamed it would

Did you pull the fender wells? Looks like it will rub on good bumps, at least mine did at that height.

I had alot shorter tire on mine.

The fenderwells are still in it, I got about an inch and a half between the tires and the fenderwells. I will probably put shorter tires on and the front will hopefully raise up some when I pull the 454 for the tbi 350

I got my nice junkyard 90 suburban buckets in today. I will paint the console to match when I swap my doors and panels out. I also got my 350 tbi all cleaned and about ready to fill the void soon to be left by the 454.

Keep up the work, steady as she goes. I will watch your build as you post. Looks good so far. what paint do you intend to use to paint your center console? doesnt paint usually just flake off of the plastic because it doesnt stick so well?

I use some stuff mixed at a local auto body supply shop. it with a good cleaning then some adhesion promoter it works well for me. Used the same process on the headliner plastics of my 77 K10 it works great .

I got the rear flipped today. What a PITA getting the perches off to weld them back on. I need to get the materials picked up to build my c notch yet and shock mount extensions. Once thats done I will round up some shocks for the rear. Hopefully get the small block in shortly then start driving it alot.

There used to be one of the converted dually suburban around me. It was cool just because it was different. It was used to haul a stock car around then it got parted out for its big block a few years later. Wish I would have gotten the rear fenders off it.

Its been a busy last few days for me on the crew cab. I got the big block 4 speed and hydro boost out got the tbi 350 700r4 and vaccum booster swapped in. I got the wiring mostly sorted out and then fired it up for the time as a fuely small block. Very happy with that for sure.
Plus picker up an 86 3/4 ton suburban 2wd for parts. Its rusty in the rockers and quarters but the interior is near perfect. I am on the frnce about swapping the 86 front clip on to the crew cause the fenders on the 78 are aftermarket and fit like crap. Hoping to be driving it again in a couple weeks.
