Drop Spindle Question
I have a friend that just removed the 2.5" drop spindles from his 86 Chevy and has offered to give them to me to use on my 72 GMC.
Can anyone confirm that these will fit my 72? I would love to save the cost of purchasing spindles. Thanks,

Plus,... there are two different 73-87 spindles. Your truck has 1-1/4" wide rotors. The 73-87 trucks could have 1-1/4" rotors or 1" light duty rotors. You will have less headaches by just buying 71-72 specific drop spindles. $229 every day,... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cl...del/c10-pickup

Re: Drop Spindle Question
I just went through this situation.
I own 73-83 spindles for the 1-1/4 rotor, and was thinking of using them on my '71. Lower ball joint is the same but upper bj and outter tie rod ends are different. Swapping the upper bj is no biggie as the bolt pattern is the same for each. The outter tie rod end is more complicated. You would need to either use the entire rod assembly with center, inners, adjusters and outters from the newer truck. Or there exists an adapter adjuster sleeve to match threads and sizes, (which I've read about several times but have never found for sale). I had already purchased all new suspension and steering parts, so decided to go with the 71-72 direct fits. Be careful if you order from Summit (anywhere actually), as they have spindles mis-labeled by CPP. I ordered the CP4S3 spindles (71-72 direct fit 2-1/2" drop) and recieved CP4S5 (73-87 stock height). Summit customer service actually called CPP and were told to ignore the casting numbers, as they intermixed the applications. (Once I explained that I had clearly recieved a STOCK height spindle, Summit was great about verifying the Exchange parts prior to shipping them out). Absolute BS that CPP flat out lied to their own wholesale customers. What I ultimately got were the CP4S4 which are bored for the 71-72 upper bj and tie rod. I believe these are the New School redesigned set, and won't increase my track width. It looks like they drop 2" as opposed to 2-1/2", but I have yet to measure to be sure. Your call, but I'd order the 71/2 spindles. Posted via Mobile Device
