Glove Box Install

I'm new to the site back 5 weeks ago when I bought my 72 C/20 Longbed. I was under the dash this weekend fixing and hooking up the heater boxes and a/c duct work. I pulled off the glovebox door, crumbled and removed the remnants of my old glove box. As I began to look at fitting the new one it, it rapidly become quite obvious this was designed to be installed before the heater duct work goes in. It appears I'll have to strip in down to the firewall and expose the bare heater core to get access. Please confirm, and if there is a handy dandy trick, I'd love to hear it.

No, it's the other way around. You need the glovebox removed so you can install the hoses easily. You'll need to experiment with hose length and which direction you run them, so the glovebox will fit. I had to sort of compress the hose where it was making contact with the glovebox so it was more thin and everything would fit

what Mr-B said is correct. leave the glove box out till you get everything fixed..

you need the glove door removed then you cafefully squish the cardboard liner and slip[ it into place thru the glovebox hole

There is a a/c and non a/c box, did you by the right replacement? The a/c glove box is smaller.

I ordered the A/C box from Classic Truck. The A/C hoses were already installed and remain in good shape. The driver's side defrost hose is a mess, but that one is easy to get to. Just didn't seem cricket to mash the new glove box when it is so....well, perfect. Got it. I'll man up a little and squish it in there. Thanks Gang

Within reason. Easy there. It's still cardboard. It is definitely the Achilles heel on these trucks. Practically everything else on them is heavy metal. Funny they'd use cardboard for something that gets used so much

I absolutely hated that they are cardboard, I ended up finding a plastic one for a different truck and cutting it to fit. Looks factory and solid as a rock!

I a little secret my dad (a restoration expert) taught me years ago with a 72 F100 Custom (they have the same crappy cardboard glove boxes in them too)
Take clear shipping tape and wrap a layer around the outside of the opening. this will allow you to freely manipulate the thin cardboard without tearing it. Plus its easy to get the screws to go through the tape.

Thanks to all and special thanks Buckskins4ever. You are talking about wrapping the outside of the cardboard insert with the shiny packing tape on the opening end, correct? Also seems like it would help it slide through, less friction. Thanks again

Gang, stabbed in the glovebox, the clear tape is a god send. Helped a great deal and it was still a wrestling match. Patience and weaseling, slight trimming on the right hand side to get past the metal that sticks out a little farther. The comments and input from you guys made all the difference in my powering through it. Came out great, thanks
