What do these trucks weigh?

I know the Max GVW of these trucks is rated at 5000lbs, any idea what one typically weighs? As I'm taking mine apart and knowing spcifically what certain things weigh, it doesn't seem like the math works out.

My transfer case alone seemed like it weighed that much when I reinstalled it!

Automobile-Catalog.com estimates the curb weight at 4070 for the 4WD model, 3750 for 2WD.

Re: What do these trucks weigh?

Well this is my question, after 2 guys lifting the diffs they have to be 300lbs each with the drums and springs easy. I know an iron small block is 500-550, 275-300 for a TH350, another 200+ for a transfercase, probably 200 lbs in wheels and tires, another 50-75 or so for drive shafts, by the time I added up estimates it left not so much for frame and body, doesn't seem to add up.

GM Heritage Center lists the 2WD 6cyl at 3511 and the 4WD V8 at 3913. I believe those weights are without the top installed.

Re: What do these trucks weigh?

Honestly I'm trying to make a guess as to what my truck will weigh after I'm done converting it. I understand the Porterbuilt converted chassis is a bit lighter than a stock 2WD chassis, the engine I'm putting in is about 150-200lbs lighter than a smallblock, the Moser Ford 9" with an aluminum carrier, a Wave-Track and 31 spline axles should be maybe 30-50lbs lighter then a 12 bolt, aluminum driveshaft will probably be a wash with a 4l60E instead of a TH350. Maybe another 30-50lbs with aluminum radiator, floor shifter vs column, Vintage Air vs giant stock system, hydroboost vs vacuum. Now I'm thinking around 3500 lbs might be doable, hell that's about the weight of an S10.

Are you saying 50-75 each, or together? These things sure seam to weight less then my steel camaro drive shafts which is 12lbs.

Re: What do these trucks weigh?

Together, honestly, mine are still attached to the transfer case, so I haven't actually picked them up and carried them, that was a guess.

Re: What do these trucks weigh?

I understand the guess. But they are not heavy at all. I was debating on trying to have some light weight ones made. But after picking them up, psh. Not much to them. But now that its been mentioned, I might weight them tonight.

Re: What do these trucks weigh?

If you're thinking about saving weight by swapping out the driveshafts, I think you would be wasting money. You'd save a lot more weight by going with a transfer case with an aluminum case. Of course, you'd sacrifice the bullet-proof nature of the NP205 if you did that.

..or I could just eliminate the transfer case altogether since it'll be 2WD

The cost difference between aluminum and steel driveshafts isn't all that much if you have to have a custom one made anyway, which I do, and I kind of like the idea of being all aluminum from radiator to differential. Now a carbon composite drive shaft, now that cost real money.

Rear is 14lb
front is 17lb.

truckster, correct. There are so many other places that would get you better bang for your buck on weight to cost.

Yeah, I could save half of that just by stepping away from the dinner plate a little faster.
