Probably Trading My 72 for a 60 Apache

Well I might be trading my truck for a 1960 Apache Fleetside. Straight 6, couple of new things on it but pretty original. Wood in the bed needs replacing. Looks cool to me though Hes in Dallas which is 4 hours away from here. So if I could get this deal rolling with my parents ill be able to meet him about 2 hours away. What do you guys think on this? Ive always wanted an Apache, and I love the patina on trucks! Seems like a sweet truck. If I get it im gonna save up to do a nice air ride probably. Or just leave it stock and drive the crap out of it!

I havnt yet. If everything plans out im gonna try my best to load up and meet this weekend. Hes in Dallas so its not easy. Im trying to get the best info on it before I spend all that gas and time going out there.

I had a 64 Chevy and a 66 GMC. I liked both, although the cool GMC V6 made the 66 a little more fun.

I would just say do a really careful inspection before you make the deal, so you know what you're getting.

I used to have a 63,loved it but it was to much rust to deal with. Now I always try to inspect these trucks as good as I can. And the staraight 6s are amazing, I love them

Are you trading your orange stepside for it? Well you asked our opinion, I wouldn't do it. Your 72 is a slick truck and the apache is, well a cool truck and all but id keep the stepper.

Yep that's it. I'm gonna have to think it through, but I love the early 60s trucks alot. If it's not to bad I'll trade, there's some cancer rust around the windshield and some on the roof. I know those are difficult spots to fix but I'm just gonna drive the crap out of it if I get it. Rockers and all look ok though

What kind of shape is yor stepper in? the avatar pic looks pretty good. If the 60 is rotted around the windshield, you will have to deal with it eventually. If your stepper is solid, I would try to hang on to it, and just find some dough to buy the 60. I bet your 72 is power brakes/steering, and I know it's disc brakes. It would be hard for me to trade straight up on one that will ride and drive as much worse as that 60 will. That being said, the 60 is a cool truck, and in better shape than a lot of 'em. Don't be offended by this, but you sound like a young man, and as a former young man, I hope you slow down and think, think, think. I have sold or traded several vehicles I should have kept, a lot of times just because I got all fired up and acted on impulse. Anyway, I ain't your Daddy, so I'll shut up, but good luck with whatever you decide!

No power steering, disk brakes up front. That's all. And mine drives like a truck also, it's fun when your under 50! But anything above that it starts getting scary.

Well the apache was a fail... But a guy offered to trade his 65 SWB stepside, only rust is above drivers side, 327 with turbo 350 trans, auto, painted primer black, has over 3 grand in custom parts for it, already has 4 disc brakes all around with power steering. He has a pair of new front fenders for it, new aluminum radiator, new set of custom gauges that go in the original place, reupholstered seat, glasspack that dumps at rear axle, factory carpet, dash is uncut, I'm sure I'm leaving out some stuff but all in all it seems like a good truck! I will be getting pictures of it tomorrow. What do you guys think now?

Even though it is nice to have an Apache, I wouldn't trade the 72 for it.

Not meaning any disrespect for people who have one or who have an affinity for the early 60s Chevy trucks, but to me they were not the prettiest.

The trucks prior to early 60's and the ones in the later years up to 1972 were the most aesthetically pleasing trucks made.

My favorite trucks are 60-66 and I had a few. I always wanted a 60-61 apache and I to almost pulled the trigger on trading my 67 for a 61 yesterday. Well I couldnt do it knowing how much work my dad,gpa and I have done on it for the last 3 years. Slow build but we knew what we did to it to get it on the road and the guy only had his 61 for less than 2 weeks and so what would he really know what it needs? SO basically what I am sayin is dont settle for less. There are tons of 60-66 chevy trucks out there. They aint goin anywhere.

I love both years of these trucks ! 60-61 and 67-72, but I think your step is worth more in the long run... I have had both, and would love another 60, but I dont think the trade would be a even swap. yours is worth more in the long run..

My 72 looks ok in the pics but up close it's pretty bad. Rust on the drip rail, rockers, and cab corners, and some on the hood edge. It doesn't run to nice either. Vibrates alot and is ear drum blowing out loud. It also has some mechanical issues... Not that I'm saying the 60 doesn't have issues but I like the look and straight 6s are the bomb. I really like original patina and stuff. My truck in my mind is just not right for me. < Still thinking about it. And all my friends around here love the apache too. I'm really on the edge of goin for it if the info I've requested comes out good. Ok so here's another question, if I do go look at this truck, what are some things to check the most on it?

Oh... The reason the guy wants to trade is cause he's always wanting a 72, it was the year he was born but couldn't find a clean one to do. And now he started a business that doesn't have time for him to put the truck back together. So he wants to trade for mine since it's pretty much a ok cruiser that he likes.

I had a '65 swb stepper many, many years ago when I lived in California. It was an old electric utilities truck in California. It had a 6 cylinder with a 3ott. No power anything.

It was totally stock and I really enjoyed driving it.
