Rubber Bed Mats
I've been looking for a place to get a custom fit rubber bed mat for my 71 GMC LWB Fleetside. Of all the places I've looked (and I've looked A LOT), it seems like they only go back as far as '75. If anyone knows where to get a custom fit one for my 71, I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
Might want to do another bed mat search through the site but IIRC the people that are using them are using a later 73-up mat cut to fit.

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
I have never found a custom fit one. I used a universal style and cut it to fit my last truck. It fit very well and looked like it was made for it.

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
I'd like to do that but everything I'm finding for universal fit is 48" wide, which will only cover the distance between the tubs. Can you tell me where you get yours?

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
I too wanted a rubber mat in lwb my truck. I was thinking a little heavy duty though and i'm not sure if that is what others would want. I went to the farm supply store and purchased some "horse stall mats" that are 5x7. I believe they are 3/8" thick. I measured out the dimensions of my bed and cut the mats with a seam in the middle where the 2 pieces come together. It looks good and works really well. each mat was about $50.

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
The only issue with the 75 up is the wheel houses are about 4 inches longer than the 67-72, and are only available in the long bed version, cut to fit for a short bed. I split the difference so there was only a two inch gap fore and aft of the wheel houses and cut the front and back to fit my short bed. Not a custom fit but better than no mat.

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
I kept the mat out of my '07 GMC long bed to put in my 72 K 20. It's about 3 inches narrow on each side but otherwise fits ok,,,not a custom fit but I had it so I run with it !!!

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
I got this one and trimmed to fit:
Dee Zee DZ86721 Heavyweight Utility Bed Mat :... The online picture shows a logo molded into the mat, but mine came plain. It looks good. |

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
Looks good to me. May have to try to route. Did you have cut any off the sides? How wide and long is it before you cut it?

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
I just used a straight-edge and a utility knife/box cutter. A pair of shears or tin snips can be used too. It is thick so it takes a few passes with a box cutter to get through, but it leaves a nice clean edge. I made a template to fit the wheel tubs cutout using thin cardboard and then transferred it to the mat for a perfect fit.

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
Dsy1, I clicked on your dee dee link and it shows just a rectangle bed mad but also states custom fit applications available. Which on did you pick up? I may try this in one of my Blazers.

Re: Rubber Bed Mats
Raw size is 6' x 8' (72" x 96"). It's been awhile so I don't remember all the details, but I don't think I trimmed the sides. The 2" x 2" corners by the tailgate are easy, the wheel well trimming is the hardest part but not bad. The mat is thick and holds up well. I kept the cut-out sections from the wheel tubs to toss on the tailgate for a little protection when I load the bed. I used the Dee Zee DZ86721 (universal cut-to-fit). They do not have a custom fit for the 67-72 Chevy.
