Oil
Just wondering what kind of oils you guys are running and why. I am running Valvoline VR1 racing oil 40wt because it has ashless anti-wear additives and ZDDP to provide ultimate wear protection for our old engines. My engine builder told me to run this oil is the main reason.

Re: Oil
NAPA 10W-30 because it's available locally, made by Valvoline, and should keep my basically stock rebuilt 350 healthy until I'm pushing up daisies.

Re: Oil
To be honest, most of the time I just go with the cheap stuff. I don't put much miles on the truck. O'reilys was having a special the other day. 5 qts of chevron 10w30 and a filter for $13.99. Looks like ill be using chevron for the next ten years because I bought ten jugs and ten filters

Re: Oil
I'm a Kendall fan. Started using it as a teenager when I built my first engine in a 70 Camaro. And I worked for a local parts store then (1988). I try to support the local or smaller guy. Kendall is now part of the Phillips brand but still good.....

Re: Oil
Plain old Valvoline 10w/30 with a bottle of ZDDP on all of mine.
Never had a problem so if it ain't broke, no sense in fixing it.

Re: Oil
Rotella T, or Delo 400, and change your oil often! Listen, If you want to spend $10 per quart for peace of mind, then by all means, purchase the exotics... I drag race an ride an old KZ-1000 as well as my stock motored truck and they both get the same oil (Rotella T) with a pint of this for insurance and peace of mind in knowing the levels of ZDDP are adequate... http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...lone_7660002-p

Re: Oil
Valvoline VR1 mineral 10W-30 on fresh flat tappet build.
Many have over 200,000 miles using any dino oil. Probably hard to find a bad oil. I have good confidence in API ratings from any large company. |

Re: Oil
A big +1
And I spent a few years working at the fuel/lubricants research division of a major oil producer. If it meets API specs there's very little difference between them.

Re: Oil
Thanks for that comment I ran a repair shop for 23 years and always had the brand arguments But as you say If API specs are met there is bacicly no difference As for synthetics they are fine but a lot of dinosours gave there life so you could have crude oil
