Best replacement seatbelts
I know this has been covered in the past, but a lot of the threads are a little old. I have an 89 GMC crew cab dually that I am changing the interior from tan to grey. I'm also replacing the buckets with a bench. I know one option is to have the current belts re-webbed (I have not been able to find someone to do this in Ventura County, Ca). I was wondering who has used aftermarket 3 point belts that fit well and look good? My upholsterer told me about some Wesco seatbelts that are reasonably priced but I have not spoken to anyone who has used them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

Re: Best replacement seatbelts
Every case will most likely be a bit different, but I switched from a bench seat to buckets in a 77' and after a bit of searching went with some from Brothers. The belts themselves were a bit different (original belts had two retractors on a belt, one on the cab wall, and the other on the floor.) the new belts have one retractor. No installation instructions came with the units, contacted both the manufacturer and Brothers, and customer service was lacking from both. I assumed prior to purchase that all the hardware would be included, and that I would be using the existing mounting holes and hardware, so no new holes were required to complete the install. Not a big problem, but some dollars later for grade 8 bolts and a few 1/2" holes and they're in.

Re: Best replacement seatbelts
I got mine from Seatbelt Planet. Pretty sure they provide LMC with the ones they sell. I rate them 7 of out 10.

Re: Best replacement seatbelts
Today I ordered seatbelts from Wesco Performance. I ordered 4, 3 point retractable belts and 2 lap belts. The great thing is, he can get them with GM buckles! Per the website, they are officially licensed GM buckles. He has about 29 colors to choose from. I will see how we'll they fit but their prices seem about in line or maybe a little lower than the competitors. Their web address is www.wescoperformance.com . The gentleman I Spoke with, Wes, was very helpful. Just thought I'd share. If anyone has any feedback about the company or product I'd like to hear it.

Been looking at replacing the fraying ones in a couple of the trucks here. Make sure to take pictures when you install them

Re: Best replacement seatbelts
Haven't completed the install yet, moving slower than I'd like. They do look great though. They're a universal seat belt so I'm hoping the fit is pretty good. Overall they look like a nice product. The GM buckles look great!

Re: Best replacement seatbelts
I have the same issue. My belts look and connect fine, but the inertia feature appears not to work on the shoulder harness, so I guess they are Kaput.
I bought a pair of Chrysler Sebring convertible bucket seats with integral seat belts which work fine. Right now, I think it would be a toss up cost wise - rigging up the Chrysler seats with modified seat bracketry vs. buying new seat belts for the stock bench seats. I got the leather seats in nice shape (except for one seam separation on the driver's seat) for cheap at the pick and pull. What makes the decision tough for me is that I had my stock bench seat rebuilt and recovered to stock appearance a few years back and it still looks great. I would hate to get rid of it for peanuts now. Plus, I am not sure if the Chrysler/GM mixed marriage would work out well. |

Re: Best replacement seatbelts
I bought some seat belts for my truck a few years back from a guy at a swap meet, the ones I bought have the GM pushbutton in them, the main reason I bought them. Not sure if they are still in business but here is their email address.

Re: Best replacement seatbelts
I found this link in Hemmings. I called them and they said that I could send them my current seat belts and they would give me a free quote for a reweb/repair. That's as far as I went so I don't know how good their service or pricing is.

Re: Best replacement seatbelts
The email I posted in post #12 may not be good anymore. I did a search on Yahoo and found Donna Jefferies has a Facebook page, they block Facebook here at work so I can't verify right now but here is a link.

Mike805, Did you ever get the Wesco belts installed? How do you like them?

Re: Best replacement seatbelts
I used the Wesco belts in my orange '74 (Clifford). This was before you could get the GM buckles. I had OEM charcoal belts in the truck prior, but never felt comfortable putting my small kids in them. The belts from Wesco worked great. I just pruchased a set for my '74 crew cab, but it will probably take a while to get them installed.
