Custom headliners

My son just informed me that when he gets back from Afghanistan that we are going to try to enter my Burb in the Moultrie ga, car show. That means that I Gotta get some more stuff done, namely the headliner. I'm sure that there has been a thread on burb headliners somewhere, I'm just not finding it. I do have saved one thread from about 2 years ago, but most of the pics have been deleted. I just want to see what y'all have done on your own for headliners, and, if you have not used the original
bows and clips, what did you use?

Much thanks!

Here is one from vectorit. You even posted in it...

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=410459

You may have to PM jeffg1010 to see if he can upload his pictures again. That is the bad thing about uploading pictures to photobucket or other photo hosting site instead of posting them on here, if the poster closes their account the pictures are gone.

Re: Custom headliners

I am tuned in and will add pics. My original headliner has changed a bit since i originally posted. I added a Vintage Air underdash unit up in the rear last summer to create rear air. I'll try to locate some more pics. (after the C10 Cruise In this weekend) http://www.C10CruiseIn.com

But it can be done cheap using the original side brackets, thin luan plywood, and headliner material from Joanne Fabrics. I gotta a little crazy with mine adding head unit, speakers, LED dome lights, flat screen, DVD... And rear air.

(there may be some old photos in the Burb photobucket link in my signature-before the rear air)

Re: Custom headliners

First let me say Thanks to your Son and all of the other Men and Women serving around the world. Hopefully he will be home safely very soon.

I made a headliner for my '69 ambulance using the information contained in Vectorit's post. The FRP works very well, is fairly easy to work with and the total cost was just over $115 at Lowes. If you search "My Latest Toy" in this forum I have several photos of the process.

Best of Luck and keep us posted....

Re: Custom headliners

I don't know anything about the ones from Brothers except for what is in the product description. I would assume they are cloth with metal bows like what's in most older cars. For that price it almost seems worth it to try out, but like I said, I wish someone out there had some pictures to know for sure if it is a decent kit. One would think that Brothers would have a picture of their product if they wanted to sell it.

Re: Custom headliners

"Carry-all, thanks for the link!" You're welcome!

I think I have one of the aftermarket headliner kits (Brothers or ??) I bought years ago before I knew this site existed. It'll take a week or so, but I can pull it out of storage and take post some pics for those that are interested in what it looks like.

Re: Custom headliners

carry-all, any luck finding the headliner?

Well, I took a short break from my shop project to go see my mom in California, yay!! I got back on it today. I finished the perlings and got up on the roof of the existing building and pressure washed off about 900 years of baked on and caked on crap. Its starting to look good, cant wait to get it finished. The "tent" that has been home for my truck for 3 years is absolutely disintegrating. Hopefully more progress and mabey even pics tomorrow!!!

Re: Custom headliners

I'm having a local shop put in a custom headliner with extra foam backing (for insulation and sound deadening) for $360 this coming week. I will post pics when done. Using perforated white vinyl, should look close to the fatory style.

"carry-all, any luck finding the headliner? "

Here ya go - located and pics taken today. Looks like a foam-backed fabric with white cloth "loops" sewn along the panel seams. There are 5 metal rods that go thru the loops and 10 pieces of hardware that appear to go on each end of the rods and then presumably insert into the factory side headliner rails. Hope this helps; let me know if any further pics or info would be helpful.

Re: Custom headliners

No, won't be using this kit. I bought it a few years back when I was accumulating parts for the truck. I really wanted to find a way to use my original headliner boards in some way. Between this site and visiting a couple of truck shows, I got the idea to cover the original boards with new headliner fabric - new look using the old boards - I'm happy!
