Engine brackets - Parkerized or painted from GM?
Trying to get that OEM look under the hood: did GM paint or plate A/C, alternator, power steering, etc. brackets? I found a local place that does good plating for a fair price. Thanks, Pete

Here's a used door latch fresh from plating. Has the correct OEM look/finish and in my opinion better than paint. The process does not damage the nylon block. Wiped off it looks new. I'm just not sure about the engine brackets though.

Engine brackets etc., were painted. Usually just dipped in black.

That's helpful - same with the metal upper rad hose on a 4wd?

Re: Engine brackets - Parkerized or painted from GM?
Is there a FAQ for this or a book that specifies color of each component factory coating?

Re: Engine brackets - Parkerized or painted from GM?
I am wondering how much of these underhood parts were ecoated (electocoated) from the factory. It seems to me that all (NOS)sheet metal, like inner fenders, radiator supports, air cleaners, hood hinges, etc were ecoated from the factory and it is a service that can be done today.
I would bet that some of the pulleys and brackets woud have this ecoating also. Can anyone share some knowledge on this or am I not correct in my thinking. |

Re: Engine brackets - Parkerized or painted from GM?
I don't believe hood hinges or hood latches were painted - believe these left GM with something like a zinc phosphate plating or some such like as shown on this 40k mile survivor truck:
