Does anyone run a turbo 292?
I've seen lots of posts of people asking questions. I've seen the trucks with the turbo 250's. But does anyone have a running, driving turbocharged 292 L6?
Every thread I've seen tells everyone to go to inliners.org and get the Santucci book, or they say look at Tom Lowe's El Camino and the MightySix truck. But I still don't think I've seen any HERE. So are there any?

Re: Does anyone run a turbo 292?
Me too. I would love to put a 292 back in my truck. Then my numbers will match again. If this becomes popular then eventually the prices on parts will be more available. That is why I had to part with the old inline to begin with. In turbo form? That would be sick!

Re: Does anyone run a turbo 292?
There was someone on here that was selling a 292 turbo charged engine a while back on the classified section but the seller changed his mind. He decided to keep it for his truck. I'll see If I can find the thread. But I know it has been done before.

Re: Does anyone run a turbo 292?
I'm sure it's been done before. I was just wondering if anyone has one currently. BTTT

Re: Does anyone run a turbo 292?
I would love to run the old 292 again. I gave mine up reluctantly years ago and it was the best running boat anchor ever built. Thing refused to die no matter what I put it through. I am fascinated to see one built up.

Re: Does anyone run a turbo 292?
I vote for you to be the first.
Stock pistons are heavy and you will need to keep the RPM down. If you go this route you will need to spend some time carefully sizing a turbo so that is comes in before 3000 RPM or you will be off the turbo every time you shift. If you want good pistons, they are out there but you really need to get longer rods and pistons with raised pins if you want to do this right. This of course means a lightened crank and... (What happened to my bank account or... I understand why nobody else has done this.) My Advise: Get a best fit turbo and set it at 4 psi on Premium unleaded and see how you like it. Or go to Propane and 10 PSI and have some real fun and see when it breaks. |

Re: Does anyone run a turbo 292?
Looks like there's a series of youtube videos on a 250 turbo build. Could be fun if you've got the know how and the cash.

Re: Does anyone run a turbo 292?
Again, I've noticed there are a lot of turbo 250's because it is easier and cheaper to source forged pistons for them. The purpose of this thread was to see if anyone was actually running a turbo 292 in our trucks.
