Rear Disc Brake conversion source?
While websurfing I came across some custom steel brackets to accept a caliper to convert rear drum brakes to disc, but now I cannot find that website.
Does anyone have any idea where conversion kits are sold, and if it is beneficial to seriously consider? Also, a parts list that's needed, such as rotors and calipers, and what application to use for the rear axle??? Finally, does the brake proportioning valve still work for the discs as it does for the drums? Lots of questions, hopefully there's some experienced rear discs out there! Thanks, Greg.

I just bought the template a week ago from a guy on e-bay mines for the 14 bolt and dana 60. Don't know if it works with anything else. I have list of the calipers and extra parts needed. I am currently making a cnc file for our laser cutters at work, so I can cut these for around $35 dollars the guys on e-bay are raping everyone for $80 bucks. I am also looking at revising the part so that there are no spacers needed to get the braket to the proper width to line up with the rotor. If your interested in a set let me know.

there are numerous ways to convert.
www.wilwood.com (summit sells these) www.mpbrakes.com (kits) www.speedwaymotors.com (kits) http://www.mpbrakes.com/reardisc.htm there are others, but these should work for now. good luck!! |

Shakerbuilt sells brackets to fit stock 3/4 ton 4x4 front rotors and calipers on a 14-bolt FF rear (i believe the brackets use 8-lug D44 stuff). The good thing about that is that parts are plentiful. The bad thing is there won't be a parking brake. Just my €0.02

RockHQ is half right if you use late 70 earlt 80 cadillac eldorado calipers you can have an e-brake. The part number for those is listed on the shakerbuilt website. The brackets are the same as which I can laser cut for $35.00 + shipping. Shaker wants $80 bucks for a set.

Houston6 If you play in the mud this is well worth the time. I'm doing this to my own project truck. The safety of my family when i drive on the street is one of my concerns. Drums get packed with mud and end up doing nothing, where the discs tend to clean themselves.

they sell a kit that use cadillac rear calipers that have the e- brake built in. |

BaggedC10, the Stainless steel Brake website is impressive. One question I'm contemplating is, should I be considering the systems that provide a custom caliper, or a system that uses OEM calipers such as cadillac? Did you consider that when choosing the Stainless Steel Brakes?

Here is a Write up I did on AZKickin (Formerly A-Tron) Disc brake conversion kit. I'm pretty happy with it. They are in the process of designing a bracket for the parking brakes that should work with the stock brake cables.
http://coloradok5.com/atrondiskbrakes.shtml It's one stop shopping. THe main kit includes machined rotors to fit 4x4 axle, Mounting plates. That will let you use either stock GM 4x4 front calipers or you can use Caddie rear calipers with the parking brake. Then they have sub kits including a hose kit that lets you retain the slock hardlines on the axle by just routing them to the hose. They also will sell you EVERYTHING in one shot (except the parking brak stuff because they still haven't finnalized the design).
