Considering LS Swap in 72 k10 4x4?

I'm Trying to figure out which would be the better move to swap in my 1972 Chevy short bed 4 x 4...2001-2009 5.3, 6.0, 6.2? I hear a ton of good things about the 5.3 being that its a aluminum block And you can get good power out of it. But I also figure the 6.0 will be just fine stock and cast block? I also want to go to NV4500 5 speed in this conversion! This truck will mainly be used for show and go and light pulling ( 2 atvs) while headed elk hunting, camping etc....

Any suggestions, pictures or tips what I should consider before making this move brackets, fabrication or bolt on parts etc....and will the nv4500 bolt right up to early LS? Or am i better off fuel injecting in the old 350? Thanks

not all 5.3s are aluminum , in fact the aluminum 5.3s are much much harder to find than the standard lm7 which are everywhere , both great engines , id rethink that trany choice , the nv 45oos are notoriously weak , and ls engines are all very powerful , ly6 is my favorite

NV4500 weak? Didn't they put them behind Cummins diesels?

NV4500's are actually really strong, It's the NV3500 that is notoriously weak.
The only problem with the 4500 is they don't like to tow heavy loads in 5th. Other than that they are pretty bombproof. As for the engine for a 4x4 I would look for a 6.0, they have a broader power band than the 5.3 for a heavy truck. That being said I have a 5.3 and really like it.

I may have confused the model transmissions , do they both have the integral bell-housing ?

Re: Considering LS Swap in 72 k10 4x4?

I talked to a salvage yard that deals with a lot of 5.3 and 6.0 turn over engine swaps and he was telling me that a 5.3 is the way to go because you can throw a corvette intake manifold are do a cam swap and pull gobs of horsepower and torque out of it?!! $1,500 for 5.3 and $2,500 for 6.0??

The NV3500 has the integral bellhousing.
