posi question
What other posi/limited slip unit were offered 67-72 in the half tons? Other than clutch style
I have a non- clutch style posi, just cant find any info on it. Not a locker, but has smaller springs.....looks like the internals of a watch, only a bigger scale!! its crazy looking Any help would be greatly appreciated

The unit with the "clock works" internals is known as "Gov-loc". Option code G 80, but is was never offered in the 67-72 trucks. This was a 73 and newer thing, but could have been installed into an older truck by some previous owner

Thanks! Looked up info and images of the GOV LOC and that is exactly what I have. Also reading a lot of horror stories. I suppose a stock to mild 350sb daily driver will be ok for this unit?

I wouldn't waste the time or money to install one....if it was already there, I might leave it.
They aren't the greatest thing going, but they can survive if driven calmly.

The Gov-loc is fine. In fact, for it's intended use it excels. There are millions of those units in use.
If you want to drag race or go hard-core off-road with big tires; you might want to look elsewhere.

Agree with Long Hair. The Gov-Loc (or Gov-Bomb as most of us know it) isn't all that it seems. If it's in a stock rig with a stock engine, you will probably have no worries. But add a little torque to the equasion and it's not a matter of if it will go... it's when.

its already there, 3.08 gear, bare bones stock 350, Th400 not even a shift kit....just a driver. No drag racing for this one.

I've got a cheater 'lock-rite' in my 12 bolt. Mine was a open carrier w/3:08's.put in a lok-rite and love it!!!!
