Ignition gremlins

283 with HEI conversion. Checked power in from fuse block where it enters coil pack is hot. Pulled no. 1 plug and cranked again, no fire at plug. The fuse for the coil was blown and I replaced it. Kill switch is on. Blown coil pack?

Re: Ignition gremlins

I have just been down this road.. Do you know the condition if the distributor itself? I thru some parts at mine like cap, rotor and module and that did not fix my issue. About the only things left is the pickup and internal wiring of the dizzy.

If the coil is bad, you will usually see some cracks on it.

If you have access to another complete dizzy, you may want to swap it out and see if that helps you.

Re: Ignition gremlins

On large cap HEI distributors, it is not uncommon for the rotors to burn thru in the center, therefore they ground out to the distributor shaft. You may or may not be able to actually see a hole thru it, but alot of black dust in the center of the rotor, under the metal tab is a starting point.
Also, the tiny spring that holds the button to the rotor and cmakes contact with the coil and fail.

Just a couple easy/cheap things to look at.
