Radio Replacement

Hey everyone, I apologize if this has been asked and covered before but a quick search of the forum didn't come up with many results for me. I have a 64 GMC pickup that I just got running and driving, It was ordered without the radio but it had a chevrolet radio put in it later on. It is AM only and doesn't work, So I was wondering if there were any inexpensive dual post radios available to put in the dash of these pickups? The posts are wider on these than most that are available that I can find, and I don't really feel like putting $200+ into a radio for a work pickup which is what the retro style radios run. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Did you use that speaker set up as a replacement or did you buy it because there was no original speaker in the truck?

If it was because there was no speaker originally, tell me please how you mounted it?

Mine was in there but was deteriorated. There is a rubber "knub" about the size of a golf ball, wedge shaped, that fits over one of the brackets. As i recall, the windshield side was connected with a bracket or something, but i recall that the dash side has a bracket with that wedge shaped rubber on it, and that wedge shape matches the inside of the dash curve and just fits snug up in there. Does that make sense?

Thanks for the info cortcomp, I do like those radios, but I'm hoping to find just a basic, simple radio like they used to offer. This isn't a show pickup I just need some tunes for driving around the farm haha

Why even bother installing a radio if your just needing it on the farm. I would just buy a cheap mini boom box...

66 truck.
6x9 craig speaker fit snug w/o screws and lasted a couple decades; no rattles and didn't slip out.
Just installed 6x9 speaker from autozone w/o screws and it fits snug.
Had to remove heater controls to install.
I installed when seat was out this time.
OEM bracket for OEM under dash speaker not needed.
Speaker fits tight against dash.
Still using OEM AM radio,
Replaced radio and heater control bulbs and looks good at night.
OEM uses two different bulbs but I used same bulb in both location because they are about $6 for two bulbs.

Make sense to me. That bracket w/ rubber knub rides well atop gas tank The bracket is designed for narrow speaker w/ tiny magnet.

On the cheap, I dont think you'll have much luck except to watch ebay/CL and other sources for a used one that hopefully works. Even then, classic radios that work seem to be drawing a premium.

New options are not going to be much below $200. Cortcomp's suggestion or this

I have one of the custom audio sound radios in the factory mounting location with no issues for 3 years.

I have a custom autosound in my car.
It is about 20 years old and still works perfect.
