66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
Can someone provide a picture of the correct air cleaner assembly for 1966 327 4bbl.? This is one piece that came up missing since the last time I owned the suburban. I am sure it was a single snorkle, dry element of some sort. Hard to find??

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
I believe this is the style of air cleaner that was originally used on the 327 in 10-30 series trucks in 1966:
http://www.goodmarkindustries.com/p-...-230-644s.aspx As is listed on that site, it was also used on some 64-66 car 283's and 327's so they're not too hard to find if you are wanting a good used original as opposed to a reproduction. Good used 4bbl bases are a little harder to find than the 2bbl ones. Lids are the same for 2 & 4bbl although there were a few other snorkel styles used for other years/applications. |

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
Exact same air cleaner on my 65 Impala 327 4BBL. If you need pics or measurements, LMK. Note that the base is for the Rochester 4GC, and it won't fit larger later 4BBLs like Q jets, Holleys, Edelbrock, etc.

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
Does anyone out there have an air cleaner base for a 4 jet carb that I could buy? I need a base to cut apart and weld to a larger based air cleaner. it is the 50's Cadillac type that I have painted and pinstriped. I want to use that original carb, and also want to use the air cleaner I have. An old base in decent condition would be fine.

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
your truck could have been built in cailf . but could be shipped to other states . most all went to western states . I live in Colorado and we received fremont ca trucks here. if it was shipped to a calif. dealer it would have the air cleaner for cailf stds since it would be sold in that state

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
if you have a z in the serial number it was made in ca if it is a suburban it might have a b in the serial number which is Baltimore md . I think most all suburbans were built in Baltimore , but I am not positive on that

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
My oil cap is the push on style. What does that mean? Did all the air cleaners have that hose connection on the base?

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
Mine is the non-vented one with a hose and pcv valve coming out of the filler neck. I also have the manifolds for the air pump injection.

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
My PCV comes out of the back of the carb and runs to the rear of the engine. My exhaust manifolds are drilled for air tubes, but are plugged. I will take some pictures.

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
I was able to pick up a nice restored air cleaner on CL yesterday. Someone did a great job of modifying the base to fit a Q Jet carb. I will need to trade that off for an original base to fit my smaller Rochester carb.

Re: 66 327 4bbl air cleaner question
1966burb: Have a machine shop turn up an aluminum spacer ring. Then you could keep it and maybe use it on another carb some day. I want to modify mine, but dont want to cut it. Mine needs to be bigger. What size hole do you have? I might be interested in it.
