I put a set of LED turn signals on the front of my '72. Installed new turn signals from LMC along with a new front end wiring harness (headlights turn signals, horn, alternator). Modified it per this forum for Internally regulated alternator. Used the flasher provided by the distributor of the lights. With the headlights off all signals flash. With headlights on LED signals do not flash, but all side marker and rear turn signals do flash. LED technician says it has to be in my wiring. Any suggestions as to where I should start looking?

Did they work properly before you plugged their stuff in?

If so it ain't your wires.

Yes, they worked with bulbs and standard flasher. Tried the standard flasher from my '68 tonight with same results.

led's do not draw enough current to cause an old fashioned flasher to work properly...

if everythig works with standard bulbs wiring is good... its that simple.

Just to clarify, it works right with the new wiring harness and regular bulbs?

If so I would bet its the flasher.

Maybe someone who has LED's can post up what flasher works with the LED's.

Upgrade the flasher. Most companies have a snippet at the bottom with the LED's that says you will have to replace it if I remember correctly.

Ok. So last night I removed the leds and insert bulbs.left the low voltage flasher that came with the leds in the fuse panel. Same problem.lights off signals flash, lights on front signals dont flash. Then I swapped in the original flasher. Again lights off front signals flash, lights on they dont flash. I guess there is a problem with the wiring. Just dont know where to start. The new signal buckets with pigtail that I ordered are marked R and L. If those are reversed, could that cause the problem?

If it were me, I would start a new thread titled "need help with wiring problem" or something similar.

There are guys who are experts on wiring these trucks who may see that and jump in to help you.

All I am is a parts changer.

it sounds like a bad or non existing ground... make sure all your grounds are good and verified

right and left dont matter... what does matter is ground and hot, or + and -

so the leds dont flash... what state are they in, on or off when your head light are on?

it sounds like the leds are using the head light circuit as a feedback ground

Well the verdict is in. After chasing theories,removing and reinstalling the LEDS, the wiring and the flasher, I gave up and called the supplier, Rod Worx. Ken asked me a lot of questions, then had me remove the LEDs, and reinstall the 1157 bulbs. Then he had me pull the headlight switch one click to the parking lights and tell him which filament was burning. The short one was burning. He said the long filament is the parking light and should be the one that is burning.He said reverse the wires feeding the turn signal/parking lights and I'll bet your problem goes away. He was RIGHT. I cut the wire in the harness going to the plug and reversed the wires on each turn signal. This was a new wiring harness and new turn signals both from LMC trucks and there is only one way to plug them together. Obviously one of them (the signals or the harness) were wired wrong. Now all lights work correctly. Woo Hoo!

I wonder how many folks are driving around with those harnesses...of course they will never know any difference until they switch to LED's.
