Nothing special but its mine

Picked up a 71 swb. 350 with 4 speed manual trans.

Regular rust issues for this part of the country. Ill fix what I can when I can. No major plans. Kicking around lowering it and changing out the wheels.
Already have most of the replacement metal. Just gotta get it in the shop and get it fixed. I don't have much experience with welding.

Anyway, just thought Id start a thread and post progress and changes as they happen. Here are a few pics of the truck as it is today

Re: Nothing special but its mine

You need some 338's and some McGaughys lowering parts for that thing ..... !!!!! I can help with that stuff and in regards to your PM .... I might be able to work something out and bring them up to Wichita .
What part of Wichita are you in ? I used to live in Haysville before I moved down here. My oldest son still lives in Derby .

Now back to the truck .....Whats your plans for it ..?

LOL... that's funny... I just sent you an email through your link on this site regarding suspension, and I was just talking to you about those 338 and maybe having them mounted...lol

I live out West near the Airport. That would be awesome if we could work something out.

I actually brought a set of Black 338's up to a forum member who lives in Wichita this past weekend.

How far are you planning on lowering it ....!

Re: Nothing special but its mine

Ill probably do the 3.5/5 drop.
The plan is to do the spindles and springs up front and a flip kit in the back.

Is it leaf springs in the rear or is it trailing arms.

Re: Nothing special but its mine

Getting ready to start ording some parts.

Still leaning towards the flip kit in the rear even though I saw that I could get leafs with 5" drop already built into them. Im guessing I would loose some ride quality with that though.
Ill probably order my new rear bumper and bumper mounts tomorrow. I gotta call and make sure which mounting kit will work for me. One says it works for 1/2 ton pickups and the other says it works with 4X4 with leafs. I dont know if that means the 1/2 ton kit is for springs only or not.

Re: Nothing special but its mine

Hoping to get the truck in the shop tomorrow. Did some asking around for a good quality shop and found one that will install a 700r4 a little cheaper, but has great customer recommendations. I kept going back and forth on ordering suspension and wheels or getting the automatic installed.
But after reading Shawno72's build thread I just have to get this done.

So for now Im going to get the trans swapped, put some 3.08 gears in the rear, and replace the worn out (non matching) tires that are currently on the truck. Oh, and get the new bumper ordered. Still haven't heard back on which brackets I need. Ill have to call about that tomorrow also.

Once all that's done all start ordering parts to lower it.
