Lost Electrical Power to Truck - what do I check - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

When I started my 67 truck tonight it fired right-up, then died. I have no headlights or IG. The battery has 12.7 volts and there is a junction block near the battery. I have 12.7 volts on it as well.

Is there a fusible link or a hot connection I can check?

Where does the main power feed go? I'm just trying to get an idea where I can check.

First thing, take the terminals off and clean them. Best place to start. Then make sure your ground cable has a good clean connection to the chassis and the body. From there trace the positive cable down to the starter and make sure power is there. There should be a fusible link or two on the solenoid at the starter. Check those and let us know what you find.

Super is correct.

Start there and work your way slowly following the path of the electrical wires. Pay attention to each wire and its condition as you trace it to a termination point.

Exact same scenario happened to me last week and Super is 100% correct on checking the battery terminals first, the neg looked clean but wasn't making contact other than a few pinpoints

Thanks for the feedback. Both cables are pretty ratty. I'll replace them and trace the wires to the starter and see how they look.

I got the engine cranking over and firing. I do not have headlights, turn signals or horn. I have 12.7 volts at the regulator on the D side core support.

Fuses looked good when I checked them.

Any ideas?

I traced a hot wire into the cab. It had 12.6 volts at the horn relay. I also have 12.6 volts at a red wire in the head light switch.

So, I replaced the horn relay and headlight switch with parts from my other truck, but still do not have head lights, turn signals, or wipers or tail lights.

Fixed it. Re-checked and cleaned the grounds. There was a lot of corrosion. Everything works now.
