Audi owners. Post pics of your 67-72 and your Audi
Edit
Forget it. What was intended to be a fun and light hearted thread, turned in to a brand loyalty garbage thread Last edited by Mister-B; 08-18-2013 at 08:00 PM. |

Here is my favorite Audi. Unfortunately it never made production. A compact 1.5 ton 4x4 (or 4x2), the Auto Union 1500A was way ahead of it's time in '42.

I feel so left out. All my Chevy's sitting around the house. Does Porsche's count. They're German. LOL

Does Land Rover count? I love it so much I don't even have a photo of the POS. I can't wait until it dies so I can replace it with another CHEVY.
Sounds like you and the misses are having a great vacation. |

Lol. You should sell it, and buy yourself a nice original farm truck next time you're in town in Utah, and have the road trip of a lifetime. Yeah, having a good time, other than we've been in a traffic stand still for about two hours out in the desert between Barstow and Vegas. It's 123 degrees, and crawling as far as the eye can see. Just my 2¢ but I think the Chevy's overshadow the German cars.

Re: Audi owners. Post pics of your 67-72 and your Audi
hey mister b, have you had to do brakes on your audi's? I vividly remember working in an independent garage in 1997 on a 1990 audi quattro 4 door v8. Original owner with 32,000 miles on it and the front brakes needed replacement (normal). We couldn't find aftermarket rotors or pads anywhere, my boss called out of the area, etc. and had to go to the dealer. I still remember the cost as follows, rotors were @ $600.00 each and pads were $125.00. The front brake job with a little labor was in the neighborhood of $1500.00. I know what i would do if it was my car with those costs, i'd sell it and write the nastiest letter to the manufacturer, and never buy one again. Any similar stories?

I have nothing against what you drive. It may be a damn good car etc. However, older ones did have huge issues, and by stating your opinion on GM vehicles made since the 70s, he should have every right to discuss the ones from that time also. Talking to him like he is a used shop rag for that does nothing beneficial for anyone. |

Thanks for seeing that,Liz. I had also seen it before and decided to ignore it.

................................................................................................. I don't consider myself brand loyal. I feel no loyalty to a corporate entity. It's brand preference. If there's any loyalty involved it's to myself. I find what works best and stick with it till I have reason to switch. That hasn't happened for me with GMs. I like knowing what I like and sticking with it,rather than switching around all over the place. I like seeing all the same maker in a driveway. It's just how I am. That's how I do business, too. I just dropped wheels off to be sandblasted last week where I've had my sandblasting done for 25+ years. It's been since '05 that I've used him and he knew me just as well as if I had been there a few days ago. Same with powder coating, machine shop, metal fab, parts,my house plumber, hardware store, lumber yard, etc. I have a favorite brand of most every tool I use. I like one company for certain tools and others for tools that same company makes. I admit, when my girlfriend moved in she had a '96 Expedition (her x was a Ford guy) and I wanted it out of here. Not just because it was a Ford, but because it would be needing work,I was unfamiliar with them, and that darn engine sat back into the firewall like a van. Screw that! She wanted something more economical,4wd,and not too terribly small. I steered her toward an '01 Toyota 4Runner because I feel it's the best in it's class. It's full frame,so basically same as the pickups. My sister and brother in law both have '95 4cyl/5spd pickups and live up a steep rocky road on a mountain. His has about 400k and hers about 300k. Facts don't lie. Those have a great reputation for a reason. I look way back when it comes to reputation. I never buy anything when it first comes out. I have no use for a car,so I know very little about modern ones. My son had an A6 for a while, though, but not long enough for me to have an opinion on them. I've had GM trucks covering the year I was born up to '92. They have been well built trucks,IMO. My '92 has 297k (all my miles) and has needed very little. Still on original engine. My younger son is 21 and I've had that truck his whole life.

2 Camaros, Yukon xl, Burb, and Cutlass.. other than that its the trucks and projects. Not a brand snob by any means (unless its GMC vs Chevy) but I turned down the Infinity and kept driving the Camaro. To each his own.

Where I come from things are a little different. My father as well as grand father and great grandfather all worked for GM and GM is the reason there was food on our table for most of my life. If my father could, he would crawl out of his grave and stab me with a kitchen knife for driving anything but a GM, free or not. I remember my sisters boyfriends had to park there Mutangs across the street because he would not allow a ford in the driveway. This is how I was raised. I will admit, working in the auto industry my entire life that the Europeans and the Japanese auto industry did have to step up to the plate and build better vehicles or they would have been sent back where they came from. Even if you can prove to me that a foreign vehicle is built better, I still prefer GM over anything. Just my opinion as always |
