What year is the Six Lug 4x4 Brake Rotor Hub Assembly from????

I have a 70 4x4 short bed stepside C10 that i bought a couple of months ago on CL. the guy i bought it from sold it to me on a lein sale so he did not have any info on the truck. after replacing the motor i finally got the truck rolling and sure enough i have to replace the rotors and the hub bearings seem shot as well. O'reilly,Napa, etc all say the truck is a 5 lug. mine is a six lug with a one piece assembly containing the hub bearings.... Does anyone know what year this set up came from, or is there a way i can locate part numbers so i can replace these?

70 K10 4x4 from the factory had 6-lug drum brakes all around. If you have disc brakes something/anything has been changed. Might want to start with the factory manuals and see what if anything stock is left. Pictures and axle ID codes would probably nail things down. Being in CA I'd make sure you can afford to title and register the truck. Back fees are dooming a lot of trucks to parts donor. In fact I wouldn't spend anything until it was titled and at least non-op in my name with no fees due.

I agree with Tim, get dmv taken care of first. After dmv show us pics of the area...it's most likely 71-72 though

you are in on the old sunshine state gaff... long story short. i bought the truck in March for $1k-first thing i did was try to get it in my name and found out that the state wanted $800 in back fees. after paying that they registered my truck with a registration that was due a month later (another $100 ) I thought i got a killer deal cause the body was in good shape, then i found out everything else needed to be replaced ....ok I will take some pictures after work today and if you could let me know where to look for the numbers i think that will solve this problem.... for now!

The axle number is on the tube on the long side facing forward. Those parts stores were looking at 2wd(C10) brakes. All GM 10 series 4wds(K10) have always been 6-lug. In fact, through '70 ALL GM 10 series were always 6-lug. From '71-on all C10 & K10 have been front disc brake and only C10 are 5-lug.

To add to the above comments, the set up that you have is two piece. It has a hub and a rotor. The wheel studs hold the two pieces together. If you need to replace the rotor, it is a good idea to use new wheel studs and have the rotor machined after it is assembled to the hub.

Also, if the bearings need replaced, you will need to replace the bearing races that are pressed into the hub. Do this before machining the rotor as well.

It sounds like you have a C/10 that was converted to a K10. You will need to identify the axle like mentioned to get the correct parts for your brakes.

Re: What year is the Six Lug 4x4 Brake Rotor Hub Assembly from????

Hi, I'm new to this site, but not new to these trucks. I've had many Chevy/GMC parts trucks ranging from 1964 - 1979. I'll try to add a little info based on what I've seen and can remember. Just have your parts store look up a rotor for a 1972 K10. As far as I can see, these rotors were all the same through at least the late 70's and probably through 87 although I've never dealt with anything from 80-87. As far as the wheel bearing part #'s, if you remove them, you can usually see the #'s stamped in them. If you have to look up the bearing #'s, look up for a 1972 K10, and then see if they match up. The outer wheel bearings are the same from 71 on up, the inner wheel bearings are bigger on 77 and newer. You never know what kind of parts swapping was done over the years. The wheel seal # is a CR (Chicago Rawhide) 24898. If your parts store doesn't deal in CR, they can cross over to there brand. If you need me to, I can look up the bearing #'s, I have some bearing books out in the garage. I hope I didn't confuse you, if you have any questions about what I was trying to explain, just ask.
