new to me 58

Hey folks. I have been on this forum for quite some time but have not spent a whole bunch of time over here. I just thought I would throw up a few pictures of the ride I just picked up. Lots of really nice mods done to it already. Rack and pinion front end, new engine, rebuilt trany, new exhaust, completely rewired and all new glass. This truck runs down the road like a champ. I can't wait to start working on the body to smooth it out a little this winter so it is ready for next spring. Sure is a fun little truck to cruise around in even the way it is. Anyhow here are a couple of pics.

Very nice. Brings back fond memories of the '59 Apache I drove in high school. Very similar stance as the front bumper would just clear a cassette tape standing on edge.

Re: new to me 58

Thanks for all the compliments. The plan is to cruise it until snow flies here and then park it it in the heated shop and tinker on it all winter. I may change the wheels but not sure yet. I tried putting the tourque thrust wheels from my car on it but geez there is not much room to get a bigger tire on it. It has leaf springs in the back and even with suspension hanging down i can hardly get a 7 inch wheel in there. I dont want a huge wheel back there but something just a bit bigger. The fellow I bought it from did a lot of great mods to it and I plan to carry on with it. Gets a lot of looks cruising around town the way it is so I'm having fun with it at the moment. I will post a couple more pics of the engine and interior when I get a chance.

Re: new to me 58

Here is a couple of pictures of the interior and engine. Engine is 4 bolt main 350 with flat top pistons, rv cam and makes an honest 300hp. The motor is nothing crazy but it moves the truck around really well. The trany is a turbo 350 and has a Camaro diff with 3:73 gears. The magnaflow exhaust sounds real nice and is fun to put your foot into. not much I want to change on the powertrain end of things so I will just make it look a little better.

Looks great inside & under the hood. Will you paint the outside the same red? Is that a Porsche Guards red or a Chevy Torch red?

Re: new to me 58

I think I may as well stick with the red because a lot has been Done already. I'm not sure what color it is exactly but I have a bit left over in a can that I will probably get matched to.

Re: new to me 58

Nice truck.

Have you owned the Biscayne for awhile? I was attending the downtown cruise for SuperRun about 7 years ago with my 59 and chatted with a nice guy who owned a big block Biscayne, just wondering if it might have been you?

Probably was me lol. I have had that car for about 12 years now and never missed a super run with it. here is a picture of the last super run in Red Deer with my Burb, Blazer and the Biscayne.

Re: new to me 58

It is running a mustang II front cross member with 2 inch drop spindles and the rear diff is bolted on top of the leaf springs with a small c notch in the frame. The truck drives awsome with this setup. It has 15 inch wheels and the turning radius is quite short with the drop spindles but I plan on putting a little bigger wheel like maybe a 17 or 18 inch wheel and it should fix my turning radius problem.
