Re: 1970 wont crank
Bang the starter with the wooden handle of a hammer a few times. Might be a dead spot.

Re: 1970 wont crank
So..I had the starter rebuilt, and truck started great until yesterday. Same issue, no crank, no click, have all the power, lights, radio, dash, but won't crank. Where is the safety switch on these trucks? Is there anything else it can be, anything else to check?
Thanks fellas Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1970 wont crank
Put it in Park?
I would guess like cdowns, Neutral Safety Switch would be my guess too.... It is at the bottom of the steering column. Jump the 2 purple wires with a high current jumper and try to start it. I have also seen oxidized battery cable terminal ends do this too.

Re: 1970 wont crank
i had the same problem , chased it down to the ignition switch gone bad, got the starter to jump with a screw driver, then checked the NSS with a meter nothing coming from the purple wire from the ignition switch

Re: 1970 wont crank
If your truck is manual shift, there's no neutral safety switch. Only on automatics. However, these trucks have been converted from one way to another so still check to make sure there wasn't one and p.o. bypassed it.
Use the screw driver trick as mentioned to test or isolate the starter. If you don't like the sparks, buy a remote starter sw. at local auto parts for about $15.

Re: 1970 wont crank
It is a factory automatic, my guess was the ignition switch, but for how cheap they are I may just replace em both.
