I'm guessing he probably ran the ad himself, seeing as the address given is not a business but a private residence.

funky 4WD prototype... so which one of you bought it and where is it!??

Yep,looks that way. I think it was called The Blazer. I thought it was a prototype for GM. I have pictures somewhere,but couldn't find them

If i remember correctly It was called a Trail Blazer, GM bought the design and rights to its name from Vic Hickey.

I was just sent this article from Dave over at ewillys.com, where I found the ad in my first post.

Interestingly, it had a Corvair engine.

That thing was so cool. Back then,nothing was cast in stone for recreational four wheelin'. Not a lot available to "upgrade" performance. And this thing had some way ahead features...in 1964!

Note: Blazerman has proven his memory is far better than mine...once again. I maybe kinda sorta got it almost 1/2 right. He nailed it right on the head! I'm sure glad at least someone has a good memory around here. I was gonna say something else,but now I forget

Yeah I may still have my memory but that's about it! The old body isn't holding up as well...getting old isn't fun but I guess it beets the alternative!

What i find funny is the independent suspension on it looks like it ended up on a h1 hummer.

Yeah I rode in it a few times on vics ranch growing up my dad was good friends with him. Really cool rig. I had no idea at the time how much the rig was worth or the history behind it. He designed the suspension for the h1 along with the moon rover.

My interest in this car is not because it is the forerunner of the Chevy Blazer, but because it is powered by a Corvair engine.

Owner of a '64 Corvair Spyder Convertible, living in the Netherlands I collect documentation and models of the Corvair.

Not long ago I found a scale model of the Trailblazer. It is a built up kit from Lindberg.
The model came without a box. Pictures of different boxes from the net:

That's very cool! Now I remember the kit,thanks to you. I never associated it with the real one. My dad was into Corvairs and VWs in the '60s when I was growing up. There were many cool innovations done with both back them. The list is endless I started a picture thread years ago on this site for Corvairs and Corvair-powered vehicles. I'd like to see that one brought back from the depths.
