How to tighten up door and window handles?
The stock handles always seem to be loose, is there any way to effectively tighten them up? I have half heartedly thought about drilling and tapping a hole into the shaft of the regulator but haven't looked at it seriously enough to see if that is even practical.

Re: How to tighten up door and window handles?
I have some from LMC and they still were looser than I would like. Are they supposed to be tight?

Re: How to tighten up door and window handles?
When I spiffied up my truck last fall I used NOS (real NOS) regulators and handles. There is some wiggle room, they do not fit tight.

Re: How to tighten up door and window handles?
That's what I don't like! Even the regulator itself has some looseness in it I realize but from my limited assessment the worst part appears to be between the handle itself and the shaft. Since most aftermarket handles have piss poor chrome plating am hoping I can get the fastening system satisfactory and then getting factory handles chromed by a really good shop here in Houston that does excellent work.

Re: How to tighten up door and window handles?
Try some small card board inside the handle and then press it onto the gear. I used aftermarket handles with the splined gear insert then the handle is allen screwed to the gear. Very tight and looks good to I think. Not much stock left on mine anymore.

Re: How to tighten up door and window handles?
Ditto on putting a little folded up piece of paper or cardboard in the handle and popping the on. I imagine a small spring would probably work well too, but I've done the paper, and it makes a big difference.

Re: How to tighten up door and window handles?
I used some aluminum foil on mine before I finally broke down and bought new regulators and handles. I've tried paper, tape, plastic baggies they all worked but the foil seemed to last the longest.

Re: How to tighten up door and window handles?
I haven't tried it on the door handles, but I've used O-Rings for similar uses as the paper and such were mentioned. They tend to last a little longer than paper or foil. Just find a thick one that will fit inside of the handle. Also, a little Petroleum Jelly, or some 111 lube, goes a long way when you use o-rings.

Maybe a few wraps of teflon tape around the splines.

Re: How to tighten up door and window handles?
There is a guy here that put a small amount of the clear, rubbery culk that he used in his bathroom shower in the hole and slid them on and waited a good 24 hours. That stuff, when it sets up seems to stretch, yet be solid and it has worked for a few months now. He said he wanted to redo one, just to see how hard it was in there and it pulled right out with a tweezer in one chunk.
