Window Seal Kit Installation
My next project is to replace the vent windows and side window seals on my old truck. I purchased refurbished vent windows from board member rogerkoop, and I have ordered a side window seal kit from gmcpauls. I figured I needed to read up on the installation so I began to search the board and to my amazement I couldn't find a thread that covered the installation completely. So, I took to the internet where I had some luck, finding this Oct 2011 Custom Classic Trucks article by Ryan Manson. It seems to be a very thorough guide to completing the project and I now look forward to getting started on a task I felt was going to be daunting. I'll let you all know how my installation goes and I'll try and provide feedback on how accurate Mr. Manson's article proves to be. Here is a link to the article...

You "felt" it was daunting? Was that on purpose?

Re: Window Seal Kit Installation
I just finished buttoning up my driver side door. I replaced all the seals and rebuilt the vent windows myself. It is time consuming, but not difficult. Use a lot of tape if you are concerned about the paint. Gmcpauls seals fit perfectly. There is a good FAQ here on removal and installation of the vent windows that was very helpful to me...That is the most difficult part. The belt seals are a breeze. Good luck!

Re: Window Seal Kit Installation
I received my parts today; window channel, inner felts, and outer seals. Including the vent windows I already have I should have everything I need to get this done, but I noticed something weird. The the channel run, the piece that goes from the top of the window frame down the back of the glass seems short. The factory pieces are a little short, but I think these are around two to three inches short. Has anyone experienced this? All parts were purchased from gmcpaul and are from Precision...

Re: Window Seal Kit Installation
The custom classic link is a good one,... but man,... they take apart way too much.
Why replace the division bar? Just replace the weather strip. Never drill out the vent window hinge pin. That is the visible part of the hinge. Drill out the two rivets that hold the hinge on to the frame. They can never be seen after they are replaced. I know this article shows repainting the glass frames,...but if you have chrome frames,... just remove the lower "L" bracket at the bottom of the vent window. The upper one doesn't need to come out. There's got to be a better "how to" thread some where.

I made a steel bar that fits tight in the division bar channel. This helps hold the vent window assembly in my vice. I also bought a special rivet tool from a corvette site. http://www.zip-corvette.com/ProductD...ero-Rivet+Tool Works very very nice at compressing these rivits. So much easier that a hammer and punch. The special rivit tool make this job do-able for 1 person. But is still easier with a second set of hands.

Re: Window Seal Kit Installation
Keith, that's why I cheated and bought them already refurbished! I didn't want to mess with the rivets and such. I gave up looking after I found the CCT article because it seemed to fit my needs, there may be a better one out there.
Do you know anything about the window channel run being short?

Re: Window Seal Kit Installation
no.
I think the last set I bought were actually a little too long. Ha. Do you think it will affect anything being too short?

I think it will cause a huge wind entry at the top of the door glass. I'm going to put it together and see...

Re: Window Seal Kit Installation
I have my drivers door glass removed and I am surveying the scene for the reassembly. The first thing that sticks out to me is the reliefs in the glass channel are in a different spot than the original, has anyone run into this?

Re: Window Seal Kit Installation
I did mine years ago.IIRC the reliefs were a ittle different but at the time they didn't make them for the Panel/Burb and I use PU ones. The windows were very tight to roll up and down.I solved that by spraying the channel runs with silicone lube(like we used back in the day on foosball table rods).
